I am in demo trading mode using saxobank’s web based platform.
Can anyone recommend another solid html platform or a MAC compatible system?
Java platforms always feel buggy and slow to me.

Oanda uses a web based platform although I beleive that is Java based. GFT has Dealbook 360 though I’m not sure whether that’s java or not.
I also use Oanda and yes it’s java… but not as buggy and slow as other java base stuff I’ve used. Not fancy in the chart department. On the plus side, the best order entry method I’ve seen!! And stops can be set as little as 1 pip over/under spread! free demo so you might want to try it!
I’ve seen Oanda and it’s not as pretty as Saxobank, heh. But it’s the one everyone recommends so I guess it’s next on my list.
I’ll have to check it out and take a look at Saxobank, so… Dylan or Hendrix?
Looking at Oanda now and it’s behaving reasonably well on the screen (considering the markets are closed, heh). I guess that’s what demo-time is for, to learn the unique characteristics of each platform.
Dylan or Hendrix?
One in each ear dude.
You’re not going to find any html based trading platforms. They’re all going to use java, ASP, flash or something similar.
Html simply can’t do what a trading platform needs to do by itself…
True, I understand. Just want it to LOOK (and be) stable. Oanda looks very 1999 (to my eyes) in terms of layout and design; but as I dig into it today I can see why it’s been recommended.
I don’t want to say this too loudly, but I think most of Oanda’s clients do most of their charting on MT4 demos from other brokers and then jump over to Oanda just to enter orders, that’s what I do for about 50% of my trading.
On the other hand, I’m might be one of the rare people that actually likes using the Oanda charts. To me they seem to have a Zen like quality to them, simple and straightforward. A few S/R & trend lines, maybe some BB bands, a MA or two, what else to you need? sometime less is more.
CMS has a relatively new online web based platform… I tried the beta version and thought it needed work… Might be okay if you’re at starbucks or work and just want to monitor trades…
it’s fun…if you have the time try them all, demos are free!
You using a Mac?
Yeah, I’ve been on Mac 4 ever. I’m going to give Oanda a spin when the London markets open tomorrow.
Can you run a virtual linux box on your mac? I know some of the folks here on babypips are successfully running MT4 under linux, I think they’re using wine.
A lot of people like Oanda for their spreads. Frankly I think that because their platform is so simple, they don’t need the extra fees covered for offering MT4. Works for some people, not for others but its always worth a shot.
