Hi Everyone in Baby Pips land

Hi Everyone Polly here living in Qld Australia. So my curiosity got the better of me lol. I’ve always been intrigued with the Share Market and stocks only I’ve never once applied myself due to lack of confidence and scared Id screw something up. I’ve dabbled on some small investments with crypto nothing big but had some returns which were ok My upbringing and mind set has been learnt more towards manual labour and trade jobs. That feeds big families and never aiming any higher was just a pipe dream or a waste of resources incase it didn’t pan out. You stuck with what you knew and it worked. Well I’m long grown now and kids are adults themselves. The old ways are long gone, opportunity is knocking and so are my grey and white hairs lol. Manual Labour is out of the question now due to health reasons and really Id just like to fulfill this wonderment ive had for such along time before those pearly gates start reeling in my line and anchor. Who knows I may even do a good job of it that financially can spare me more time in the sun while enjoying a new skill. Better later than never, lets hope my brain can kick into some over time. Anyway that’s me lets do this well its a start anyways lol. Thanks

Every new trader should visit the educational section to learn many new things about trading.

Hello and welcome to the forex world.

Hi Polly,
Welcome to BabyPips. That is a great introduction - so we understand your motivations and your fears, hopes and dreams.

“Good on ya Shiela”.

I was brought up in Melbourne - my parents were £10 specials who emigrated in 1963. I have extended family in QL, VIC and work colleagues in WA.

The good news is that you are in a very good place to learn all you need to learn about Forex trading. With a long break in between I have been learning from BabyPips for over 10 years. And if you take the advice of most seasoned traders on this forum, it will not cost you a cent before you become confident enough to take the plunge and open a live account. And there is no need to do that until you are confident if you follow the excellent advice offered by members. You do that via a demo account or a paper trading account.

The bad news is that trading is not a walk in the park. It is THE most difficult pursuit I have taken in life without being able to demonstrate to myself that I have found an edge via which I can confidently trade in the knowledge that I WILL make money in the long term. That is not to say it is that difficult for everyone. It does explain why 90% (or 99% if you believe some commentators) of new participants lose money.

About the most useful advice I can give you is to learn how not to lose money, not how to make money, and your expectations, mindset and psychology will be far more easy to cope with than if you started off by saying “I am going to turn five hundred dollars into five thousand dollars in a year”. I know you will be able to adopt that mindset because you are not 22 years old :slightly_smiling_face:

Start on the Education tab and look at the School of Pipsology - it is a structured learning course on Forex and starts in kindergarten and goes up to degree level.

Spend some time searching on this forum with the magnifying glass to the top right of screen next to your avatar (picture). Try, for example, typing “time frame” and see how many posts you find on that subject.

Best of luck with the new pursuit. Fortune favours the brave, but brave is your mindset, not throwing away your hard earned funds when you don’t have to. And be prepared to face the “crabs in a bucket” syndrome from your friends. Since less than 1 in 100 people will get what you are trying to do, they will try to drag you down back to their level of Bruce Average. Don’t let them drag you down back into the crab bucket. Be brave and peer over the edge.

It surely is a start, and it is always better to start late than never. Trading surely, is an amazing skill which needs to be mastered with a lot of pateince and practice. You can start with Babypips itself, with the education section and then play aroud with demo accounts to understand how things actually work. All the Best!

thanks for that great food for thought. It all starts with sticking your toe in the water so to speak so lets get it wet lol. :grinning:
