I’d say millions, or in the tens of millions. How many of those traders actually succeed and make a profit? I’d say 1-2%. And out of that, 1-2% more actually make a sizable income.

You’d have to look to aggregate the number of broker accounts (US figures are available for CFTC regulated brokers, but I’ve never seen them for other countries) and then adjust downward to account for multiple accounts.

as of Q4 2010 ~122,000 in the USA… (do a web search for “number of forex broker accounts”)…
% of profitable accounts is also interesting.
of course, one individual can have multiple accounts; however, this info may give you a rough idea…
