How many losing trades for it to count as a "losing streak"?

I’m sure many traders are making tons of $ right now with the crazy volatility and unfortunately, I’m not one of them lol.

Just wanted to ask how many losing trades does it typically take before you count it as a losing streak? I’ve literally had about 3 or 4 losing trades and I think that’s a solid streak.

Aside from that, do you pause when you do get these streaks?

It may be time to pause - as you say and consider whether the indicators you use are still working ? andf whether the nature of the market has changed ?

I am finding it very tough now, with market sentiment reacting to every media report, so expect losing trades, especially JPY pairs which depend on economic news about the Yen.

IMO, the most consistent is the Euro whether it’s bullish or bearish, you’ll get a trending run. But beware, large spikes occur.

IMO, it’s the FX market topsy turvey conditions, not your strategy that causes a few consecutive losses.

I believe, it’s a good strategy! You can’t expect the good result each and every day; so when I get consistent SL’s I would like to take a break then!

Its always useful to look back at a losing trade and try to see why it lost. One trade on its own doesn’t teach you much but if statistically you’re seeing common factors, that should be worth paying attention to.

so why do the losing trades lose? Maybe its -
entry too early
entry too late
exit too early
exit too late
direction wrong
incorrect market selected
economic calendar news, content was anticipated by market
economic calendar news, content surprised market
unexpected news
platform glitch
data spike
trader entered incorrect instructions through platform
price followed different chart pattern on longer time-frame
etc.

It depends on strategy, you can have even 8 loses in a row and still be profitable in long term. That is why comparing back test and live trading is so important. Regards Greg

losing is good as long as you take it as an opportunity to learn where you went wrong and improve. Everytime i’ve lost it’s taught me what I wasn’t paying attention to and only seems to be helping me make my trading strategy stronger. It’s usually i’m using a bad indicator or I missed a high impact news breakout. Don’t take a break, improve your strategy and keep going.

It’s really about loosing on the next trade or the one after that, but what’s most important is how you react to the first loss, you got to control those feelings/emotions, you just have to else you’ll keep loosing.

I paused for about a week. Helped a bit even though maybe it’s just mental…

This, exactly.

These 3 are usually the main culprits for me…

Interesting take! What’s been your longest losing streak if I may ask?

2 trades in a row has been my longest losing streak.

I find that dailyfx has news on there that isn’t on babypips or forexfactory or the importance is much higher on dailyfx

Over a span of what time frame?

usually its 2 days in a row

Not too bad. I’ve had losing streaks for an entire week lol

I don’t focus on any individual trade, yeah when I face consistent SL, usually I stop trading for that day! But, I count my result end of the month!

if you trade lower timeframes, check the higher timeframe for that pair and see if its consolidating. but yea higher timeframes are a lot less stress and seem to be more accurate depending on the strategy. Whenever I scalp, I lose a lot and win a lot :sob: what’s your strategy?

Right now my “strategy” is basically taking the trade ideas here and then seeing if the trend is strong enough to enter. Just using MAs to confirm and also using higher timeframes for this.

I haven’t tried scalping! Sounds super stressful. Have you tried doing it during a big news day lol

hahah yes it’s enough to give you a heart attack! The higher timeframes are so much better, I just get bored or impatient and I start doing dumb stuff. Although i’ve had some awesome big trades scalping, overall it’s just not it lol I’m aware my psychology needs work too before I go live. It’s work everyday telling yourself to just stick to your strategy even if you lose. I never thought trading would teach you so much about yourself but the more I dig for what seems like a really great strategy often leads to knowing how to read price action on the weekly/daily and not using indicators. ramble over haha
