I think the easiest thing is to mute MT4 completely, using the ‘Mixer’ setting of your volume control (Windows 7).
If you’re using Windows XP, just mute all MIDIs and WAVs, also using the PC’s sound controls.
lol, oops … of course; that’s way faster and easier.
I’m so used to controlling my PC with the operating system that I haven’t even thought about application settings.
Then the EA is running a default setting that overrides the manual stuff. And MT4 won’t go into your Windows program to select an alert. There are plenty to choose from in MetaTrader itself.
Try opening the events window with all the alerts, and double click the name of each event. A little red x will show up on each of them.
And if not, try disabling all MIDIs and WAVs in your PC’s sound settings (from what you’ve said it looks like you’re using WinXP).
That’s a bit cumbersome to do and undo every time you need the sounds again for other applications, but it’ll work 100%.
Seems to only happen when my EA opens a trade… and with Million Dollar pips it does it several times a minute when at the right time… very annoying to get those beeps and dings
Just mute all MIDIs and WAVs, using your Windows Sound Settings (the settings window that looks like a sound mixer, accessible via the Control Panel).
That will kill the annoying beeps and dings for sure.
If you use Win7 it is very easy to mute applications selectively; if you don’t have the sound settings in your task bar (which you should have, because it makes things much faster), do this:
1.) Open MT4.
2.) Click the Start button on the very left of your taskbar.
3.) Choose Control Panel.
4.) Choose Hardware and Sound.
5.) Choose Adjust system volume.
6.) A pop-up window will open, showing you a mixer each for you Speakers, System Volume, and every Application you have currently running (e.g. browser, MT4, TV etc); at the bottom of each mixer you’ll find a blue speaker symbol. Click on the speaker symbol of MT4; the symbol will now show a little red circle, indicating that the sound for MT4 has been muted.
7.) Close the pop-up window again; close the Control Panel again. You’re done: whatever beeps and dings MT4 or any EA running on it would ordinarily make are now muted.
You might want to incorporate this Volume Mixer into your taskbar, so that you can access it at a single click.
