How well are EA's doing if Quants are having trouble?

Here’s an article from the New York Times reporting the difficulty for quants to make money in these conditions.

If these PhD’s are having trouble, what does that say about the average joe EA’s out there?

yeah, but who said the average joe EA’s are making money?

actually, i’ll answer it for you.

The average joes themselves…

Ha you’re probably right…

But I do think there are EA’s out there that are profitable at least some of the time. While market conditions change, it is pretty much the same different conditions that the market switches back and forth from (ie trending, ranging, channeling, breakouts, etc.) The trick is knowing when to switch and to turn on the EA that is applicable to the environment.

I wonder if there is anyone doing it out there who can do that…

do you make any money or do you just talk smack about every ea?

What are you an expert at? Running your mouth?

Im consistantly profitable. I trade ea’s and I am also a discretionary trader. Honestly some ea’s do well. Eventually they fizzle out but to me even a $1000 is not to much to pay if the ea does what it is supposed to.

I am testing Photon right now and it is consistantly earning aprox. 20% a month.

I’m not sure about quants but I read somewhere that bonds are out performing them and they are finding it “safer” than the markets right now. But I think it is a bunch of bs coz even my 11 year old can earn a better return.
