why dont you simply not use EMA’s
just a thought
You need an indicator or EA to ALERT you with a sound when the MA’s cross.
(IMHO) EMA crosses alone are not reliable indicators of impending
price action. Using an MACD as well may help.
The “rule”: Only go long in an uptrend when MACD crosses signal from
below AND MACD is below zero-line AND pair is trading ABOVE both EMA’s
(everything vice-versa for a downtrend), is alleged to have a 60% success
rate in most trends.
Were this so, it would give you an edge. The downside of this is that the
waiting around for the right setup could drive you nuts, especially day-trading
on 30min/1hour charts ! ! The temptation to trade irrationally in the
meantime is usually both irresistable and unprofitable.
Chris
question: if you are trading off of the 1 and 4 hour charts, do you wait until BOTH charts’ indicators hit, or would you use the 4 hour for overall trend, and go off of the indicators hitting on the 1 hour?
The question is, are your trades that you do make successful? If they are, isn’t it worth being bored? I personally do not use moving averages, but I do have to watch and wait for my trades to happen. There is no such thing as a successful “system” that involves very minimal work and analysis. If I’m bored while waiting for a trade I actually take it as a sign I’m doing the right thing; If I’m getting excited and can’t wait to place a trade to jump into the market, I may as well go to Vegas. Trading, if you’re doing it right, in my opinion, should be boring.
It’s not so much being bored as it is being frustrated when missing a setup… whether it’s a MA crossover or price reaching a support/resistance line… and then having to wait again for the next setup.
As with any system, an ALERT (price or indicator based) is really handy to let you know when your setup is drawing near or happening, especially if you’re doing other stuff within earshot of your computer, so you can be there when it happens.
I use them for myself and are really handy in case I’m scanning several pairs, writing a post in a forum, or distracted by the TV, and not paying attention.
Here’s a few MT4 indicators I found that will ALERT you when your moving averages of choice (EMA, SMA, LMA) have just crossed.
