As you may or may not know, the Meta Trader Application for the Ipad or Iphone is rather limiting in comparison to using MT4 on a conventional Windows based home PC or Laptop. For example having multiple charts open at once on a Windows based PC or Laptop is a piece of cake, but this cannot be carried out on an Ipad, which is a pity.
One way around this that I have encountered is to download a ‘VNC’ application onto the Ipad device which allows your remote connection to your home PC. So, if you have MT4 up and running on your computer at home, you can connect to this by your Ipad and so view everything as you would on this computer at home.
A problem that could occur is time lagging. Data not only has to travel from your broker to your home based computer/laptop, but it then has to travel to your VNC server, and then finally to your Ipad. Executing trades on time is of crucial importance when day trading, so I could see this as being problematic.
Does anyone have any experience for this, and if so any recommendations would be great. MT4 applications on the Ipad are shockingly bad, with limitations all over the place.
The simple answer would be to buy a windows based netbook, I know!
Thanks for posting this. I was seriously thinking about buying an ipad for trading.
Apart from that I cannot see any other real use for it in my life.
Now I can save my money
Thanks Jezzode to share detailed info about Ipad Trading. I was searching regarding this online but did not found anything useful but my search finish here.
No problem, ill keep you updated if I mange to find an effecient way to implement MT4 onto the Ipad, would be shame to toss the Ipad into the bin. Saying that, im sure it would make a nice paper-weight
I work in It and one option is to have your primary PC at home running your trading application and then logging in remotely using something like teamviewer or VNC to see what your home PC is doing and amend trades.
I am doing this now but only on a demo, from work to home and it is good only as i am on a company network and no wireless. From the IT angle i have tried many remote desktop solutions for many customers and the main issue you will have is not lagging, but if you get disconnected from your 3G/4G connection, what happens to your trades?
team viewer is very reliable from ipad and PC, i have tested this thoroughly, it is easy to setup and free to use and can be set on the PC to run permantly with a pre-set password so if your out from home you can get someone to reboot your PC if needed and you will still be able to logon to it.
I would be wary of an ipad due to the lack of custom indicators and addons that you can have on windows. I would suggest to wait for windows 8 to come out and get yourself a win 8 tablet. Then you can have your cake and eat it ! But make sure you have a good data plan !!!
I use LogMeIn (free) to connect to and control all of my computers remotely. There is an iOS version called LogMeIn Ignition (not free); works flawlessly.
wow, now there are other app too look forward too thanks guys for sharing, at times I enjoy trading on a different platform, not totally, I mean its like having a break from staring at my MT4 and it can be handy on the go. I use an iphone and an ipad though hotforex do provide platforms for both of them but I sometimes check forex OTG for pricing
I’m using logmein paying for the pro account. Looks very good, and crisp images. Changing the resolution can help make the viewing more comfortable. As for losing connection, this will be a rare problem, as I’m always on wifi at university and my home PC is also on home wifi. Looks like I may have found a winner. Only downside is that it can be a bit of a fiddle, touch screen trading was never meant to exist lol
I use LogMeIn Ignition on my iPad over 3G and it’s really good. It can get a bit laggy if your signal is poor, but thats only to be expected. If you have full signal then there is virtually no lag at all.
I second what Jezzcode said about changing your resolution - it can make it a lot more usable.
hey has any one try the blackberry software to trade, I just tried ipad app that hotforex released recently and it works well not so much differences between using it and using a desktop computer actually, I have a blackberry but I dont use it often … just wanna know if there a good app for blackberry??
