Is Forex Gambling?

I think trading is more like an upgrade to gambling. It’s like a higher percentage of winning since it will involve a skill set to increase the chance of winning.

Money Is Everything.

Blackjack - Card Counting… Increases your probability of winning - but still gambling…

I must admit I’m getting rather tired of the question ‘Is trading gambling?’ nearly as much as of ‘Which is the best broker?’.

Trading is gambling to those who take a gambling approach to it, i.e. people who risk large percentages of their accounts on single trades and who think that any form of analysis is just mumbo jumbo.
Trading is business to those who take it seriously, i.e. people who observe money management rules, make sure they trade with a proper R:R ratio, et cetera.

O.

Agreed. Couldn’t phrase it much better myself…

I think the sad fact is, there are a lot more ‘gamblers’ involved in Forex than there are traders… Well the silver lining of course is that it just provides the traders with more liquidity eh?

The Micheal Meyers of threads has risen again…

lol … Excellent!!

am i guessing or all this gamblers above just lost their money because they actually was gambling not trading?
or i am just 100% sure??

you are fools! casino and forex wiht MM is two different things!!

what can you know in casino? nearly nothing

but forex is economy! you can follow it all the time and make money all the time! if you are too s*upid to analyze news and make some trend analyze, sorry, it;s gambling for you

forex is not a fast game, you need learn a lot, and you always have option to stay outside market, and enter only on safe event, like unemployment change news

there are always big dogs that will speculate in forex, to make it gambling for you

gamble or educate, its your choice!

Yes, trading is gambling…but with the odds in your favour.

Same as playing poker, there is a part of the game you can not control, but the bigger part depends on your ability.

So for me trading is gambling, but if you treat it like a business, you put the odds in your favour and is possible to make money…

Hey MasterTang, let’s face it, only a few things in life are certain like, taxes, death, unemployment… how much certainty do you want?

I am personally agree that forex is a bussiness and NOT a gambling…:18:

Hey PPF, if I can have a sharing moment, I find it oddly reassuring that neither of us could fight the urge to respond to this latest resurrection of this thread. I tried, this time. I really tried to resist. But it just calls to me, I hear whispered voices on the wind. ‘SimonTemplar… SimonTemplar… they’re discussing ‘Is Forex Gambling?’ again… SimonTemplar… answer the call…!’

Anyway, to strike a (slightly) more serious note: I don’t think that this issue is ever going to be resolved. Some will say that there is too much chance involved for this to be anything other than gambling, others will counter, perhaps, with something along the lines of not every profession that involves risk is gambling, as many obvious professions involve an element of chance, or maybe that someone who is consistent over a number of years cannot be considered a gambler. A stirrer might at this point even try the ‘not all gamblers lose’ line, as there are professional gamblers… so is even gambling necessarily gambling?

But anyway, I’m rambling, perhaps incoherently, to summarize: we as a community are never going to agree on this. As long as we’re all making money, then the issue is just a fun sideshow, imho.

Hello. Long time no ‘hear’!!!

It is funny i.e. I felt the same way when I saw this thread rear its ugly head again (except I’m staying out of it)!!! LOL!!!

Regards,

Dale.

Hi Dale and yes, I am conscious that I owe you an email from ages ago, for which I can only apologize - foreign travel, illness, all sorts of domestic chaos… but basically there is no decent excuse, I apologize and will dig it out. But let’s not distract from the joyous purity of a gambling thread by going into it here lol.

You say that now, Dale, but few can resist for long.

It’s the Medusa of threads. One glance, and you’re transfixed.

This is my favorite thread (that’s favourite, for you Brits).

I love this thread. I hope it never dies.

In fact, I bet you a million pips that it will never die. It’s the ultimate zombie thread.

Forex is definitely not gambling. You need to have brains to earn on forex. But very often I became frustrated when it seems to me that price’s movement is controlled by “somebody” (unknown X men in the up). In such cases no knowledge or strategies will help you, cause the price has moved in the way it simply wants to move. And there are no explanations to it.

It is gambling, but to an extent. It is safer than gambling but not by that much. The idea is winning more than you lose and staying out when needed.

Are you gambling? Or speculating?

The way a lot of people approach it, it’s gambling

Seriously though, when you take into account what is required to become a profitable trader, it is a far cry from gambling. First you have to educate yourself, then you have to follow/develop an effective strategy over a long period of time. This takes discipline and a lot of perseverance. Hardly the traits of a gambler.
