I actually just recently opened a mini account with $500 myself. Unfortunately things haven’t completely went my way so far. I’m down to around $400. I think I agree with Floridaexchange in that stops just kill me when they eventually turn around. I’ve managed to trade news with some success but as far as analysis goes thus far it hasn’t been working very well.
I think my main problem was that I wasn’t really looking at the overall trend for the day since I was looking at 5 and 15 minute charts. I’ve now switched to 5 & 30 minute charts since the 30 chart seems easier to confirm the overall trend. I did get burned so far this morning watching USD/JPY
Everything I saw and read said the pair was going down but without warning it shot back up to 119.90 where it currently is hovering around. Once again the evil spirits have sought to screw me. Hopefully my trade can be salvaged in the end though and perhaps all the indicators and squawk box snippets I have seen that say to short the pair will be proven correct.

I first found out about forex around september of 2006. I practiced for a few weeks… and decided to open a live account. (yes - that was the dumbest thing I done so far in the history of forex for me.) Anyway, I had no idea what any of the charts meant, I did not know any technical studies… I did not know how to use candlesticks either (lol). Well, so I traded with ‘line’ chart. As stupid as that was… I acutally got my account from $250 to $400 by just… GUESSING? Heres the thing though about live accounts…
I read here people said that live accounts differ from practice accounts…
As a live account holder, I will tell you that Live and Practice accounts are practically the same. The only difference is that when you trade live… You are more careful, and it acutally feels live because when you select platform, you choose “live” instead of “practice”. Aside from that, thats about as much difference as I seen.
Another thing is… I was trading on leverage of 200:1 and on a $250… i traded up to 5 lots and didnt get margin call.
If you have not spent a few months LEARNING, not just practicing… LEARNING forex, then do not even think about opening an account. I have learnt and practiced for another month already, and still is NOT enogh for me. Wont be opening a live account for at least 2 more months.
I recently opened my 2nd practice account… And I am making recordings of my profits. I will post some links later. Heres a nice profit I got yesterday:
