You can actually trade successfully off a starting capitol of only $250, BUT it truly depends on what your idea of success is and your broker. Personally I started with only $250 and it took me a very long time to make this money grow. But I considered it a success because it did grow. However I was using very small lot sizes, many of my trades were for pennies per pip when i first started the account then I gradually increased the lot sizes. The nice thing about trading in pennies is that your emotions aren’t as involved as when you are trading with larger lot sizes but you still feel some emotion about the trade because you want to see your account grow and you want to be right. Even if your down 250 pips you’ve only lost 1% of your $250. If you dont have a large enough investment to trade in full lot sizes try using interbankfx.com.
Oh i see…interbankfx
anymore other forex ?
The mere idea of Piles of Cash makes a Successful Business, is flawed.
I think it has to do more with the Trader, Their Knowledge, The Style they choose, Timing, Money Management, Their Risk Tolerance, The Markets cooperation with said Style.
Their willingness to adapt when the Market changes and their System stops working. I think this is a good point here. I knew people back in '99 and 2000 that had a system on Equities of buying anything that had Nano or dealt with Computer Components which had good volume and had a pullback. Which is a Horrid System but back then it worked just cause everything was going to the Moon. It is all about can you let go of a System that is starting to breakdown.
I don’t recall who posted this, but someone once was saying something to the effect, “People, it is a Business not unlike risk in other businesses, Capital is always a concern on Startup, but to say it isn’t possible on low Capital to have a Successful Business, would be shortsighting all the above factors.”
Sure it is harder with lower Capital, but nothing is impossible.

With an amount as low as $500, you have to watch out for overleveraging to avoid the dreaded mcalls. The money management principle says to not expose more than 20% of your equity, or a quick and dirty way is maintain a usable margin of 80%.
That means very small lot sizes if you only have $500.
I have been successful as an absolute beginner by using a very conservative strategy. I want only short term exposure. I want most of my trades to close within 4 hrs.
So i enter close to current price, and set a profit target not that far off. The winnings? Not anything giant, but I believe in a consistent series of small profit-takings versus hoping for the big jack prize. Boring but a so far winning strategy.
I dare not even give advice. today is only my 4 th day of trading ever, on FXCM’s demo account. But 4 days ago I started with $50,000 balance and today have just over $55,000. I don’t think that is so bad.
i realize that equates on a live mini account of $500 to only $550, but the balance is growing, which is what it’s all about, right?
With my conservative day trading style, I have only lost on two positions out of about 20. Like I said, boring, not glamorous, but consistently successful.
I would think if you only have 500$ you should trade micro lots with a broker that allows that. At MT4 broker seems to work out great for that. Even if you have more than 500$, if you have never traded forex before you should go this route. If you don’t have $500 to loose, why are you trying to invest anyway. Consider it as an investment in your education.
I am not the biggest fan of long term demo trading, the money is not real and no matter what you will not treat it like real money. At least with a micro you will know what it is like to gain and loose real money. Even if it works out to .10 a pip. the idea at first is to develop at trading system that is profitable and practice money management.
Then if after a few months ( this will allow you to experience major news issues, broker errors, drawdown, streaks, etc) you are able to profit. Take $5,000 and go to a mini account.
I would use the mini account for a few years, hopefully you can have the same results as you did with the micro. If so, consider a real account with a $50,000 opening balance.
So can you become successful with only 500$? Sure, but it won’t make you rich overnight.
Years and Years of continuing education will make you successful and rich…
This is one of the most sensible replies I have read. Just be aware that you could only trade with an outfit like Oanda that will allow any size trade as you are way too undercapitalised otherwise.
