That would really depend on the computer. I usually leave it on 24/5. Then let it rest during off hours. I have never had a issue but then this is also my 3rd computer so…
Yes you can
Yes, but you must be carefull about working the whole day. If you’ll be trading during all the sessions, you’ll have not enough energy to live normally. Better to choose one. If I understood you correctly.
Thanks for the replies. But in case I didn’t make it clear, my question is not just running the computer 24 hours a day, but also running it continuously for a whole week. Is that ok for an average computer (not a heavy duty kind of computer)?
I have actually been advised by an IT specialist to be turning it off and on as little as possible, so mine usually runs 24/5, and I turn it off for a bit during the weekends.
The only thing you need to worry about is your hard drive if you are using the disc type.
Get a solid state and you can leave your computer on 24/7.
I’ve been advised exactly the same, and by someone I really trust.
I turn mine off on Sunday afternoons when I go out for cappuccino and pistachio cheesecake and when I’m at home (rather than away for 2-3 months), I just leave it running all the rest of the time (other than doing the re-starts it sometimes requests when it’s downloaded things like Windows and AVG updates and needs to install and run them).
Mine are on 24/5. Computers like people to need to sleep or reboot every now and then or you will see issues from lack of sleep. Just reboot when you have a chance. rebooting is when all the updates get done so it is important. once a week is fine.
Mine runs 24/7 for the most part, I turn it off only when I know I would be away from it for the entire day and during big storms because I am concerned about lightning strikes.
Thank you all !!! Now I know.
I turn off my comp for the night. Just think… The details get hot while working. It will work 24/7 until it will burn.
I don’t think it’s the best outcome for you
Thank you for your opinion on the matter, hafizmohd81 !! I’ll take it into consideration.
I am never turn on computer 24 hour, usually only if have spare time after go home from my offline job and also morning day after wake up , if any trader using ea and want to running ea 24 hour hence they need to use vps to running ea full time
VPS sounds like a good idea. Thanks for the suggestion
You can pay for a VPS, or you can pay your electric bill. I guess it depends what is cheaper where you live, but we are already using the electricity for other things (fridge, lights, TV, etc.) so I figure it makes more sense just to run my machines 24/7. I have battery backups for each one, and I know from my IT days that a computer left on lasts longer. When you turn computers off and on regularly, parts heat up and cool off. This causes contraction and expansion which eventually makes something wear out or come loose.
Thanks clemmo !!
Computers have heatsinks and fans that keep them from overheating, actually. If your fans are working properly there shouldn’t be any reason to worry about that.
If you will open your computer 24 hours a day and stick with that computer then it will be damaged your health as well as wealth, never stick with your computer all the time, just perform your trading according to your planning in order to get the benefit from this business.
Well, I think that you can leave your computer to work 24 h. Perhaps you can turn it off when the market is closed and you don’t use it. Mine is turned on most of the time, but not during the weekend and so far I don’t experience any issues. And if you are planning to use a VPS I believe that is necessary to run 24 h a day.
