Is there a trick to loading a custom indicator on MT5?

I just recently decided to try out MT5 over MT4 but loading custom indicators does not appear to be as straightforward.

For MT4, it was simply a case of:

  1. Download indicator to experts/indicators folder
  2. Run MT4
  3. Go to Insert and choose your indicator
  4. Voila!

For MT5, it goes like this:

  1. Download indicator to MQL5/Indicators
  2. Run MT5
  3. Go to Insert
  4. Frustration as the indicator you just downloaded does not show up there or even in the Navigator pane
  5. Try opening the mq5 file with metaeditor, saving, and compiling (verify no errors)
  6. Still does not work

For some odd reason, 2 of the 4 indicators suddenly started to work after previously having gone through the abovementioned frustration process. I am not sure how it happened so I was wondering if there was a trick to loading up custom indicators on MT5?
