I thought it was possible to trade FOREX 24/7, but I’ve just received the following message whilst trying to place a trade using my demo account:

Why are you trying to trade on a weekend…lol? Technically the market is open… But most retail brokers are not as there is not much liquidity during the weekend to justify staying open.
It is 24/5 tehnically you can trade in weekends but spread is huge with volatility because not many people trade so smart brokers don’t let you trade then.I guess if you trade with a bank they might let you trade like if you trade huge positions and don’t wish to pause your trade like with the other brokers, they might let you hold that position and modify it in weekends too.
Forex is 24/5 market It is closed at week ends other wise you can trade 24 hours any time you want. it is not 7 days trading . You can trade 5days of the week easily when you are free. This market never closed in working daysif there is not any holiday.

Forex IS a 24/7 market… Most retail brokers just aren’t open on the weekend as there typically isn’t much market movement.
Perhaps it’s easier to say that “Retail Trading” is 24/5, however the markets are still open. Why do you think you get weekend gaps in price when the Friday close price is different from the Monday open price.
If you trade with a large bank they will probably let you modify your positions on the weekend too, because they will take a comission not spread they dont care whether you lose the trade or not.And you dont have to be a company just sign an individual contract with them and you are good to go.In my head retail trader means personal trader which is not a company, but i guess you view it differently.
