Laptop Replacement

My ancient Dell laptop has finally died. I’m looking at possibly replacing it with a tablet or something similar.

Does anyone have experience using a Microsoft Surface Pro (Windows 8) as a mobile hardware platform for trading? I understand that it will run executable files just like a regular OS (Windows RT will not).

I’m not trading yet; still learning and practicing.

Thank you!
Todd

I`m using an acer aspire laptop. It has good stats, its pretty new and probably can be used for games too,but i use it for trading, because it has a good battery up to 7 hours or more ,and pretty wide screen but small so its good for 1700+ resolutions, but i had no problems using metatrader on it.I also have a PC for backup, in any case but not really use it.I would not recommend tablet for trading, its just not the same as a mouse or keyboard…

Definitely don’t use an Android tablet for trading. I like what I have been reading about Surface Pro and would put it
at the top of my wish list for a replacement when the day comes.

Hi Piobaireachd

Have you bought yourself a new laptop yet? If not, i would rather suggest you to buy yourself a good desktop computer… This is what i am planning to buy… I spent NZ $3000 last time to buy a laptop, but i am not going to buy a laptop again… There’s nothing wrong with laptops, but i think if anybody trading Stocks/Forex full-time or professionally laptops are just not suitable. But it is always good to have laptop as a backup computer…

Happy Trading…:5:

Thank you all.

I haven’t purchased a laptop/tablet yet. Luckily I’m in IT so I have the opportunity to “test” some models. I’m very pleased with the MS Surface Pro with Windows 8. However, I think I’m going to wait a bit.

I was able to resurrect the old Dell laptop so I will use that for a while.

I have a decent desktop so that will work for me until I make a decision.

I will be purchasing the pro very soon as well… Looks like an ideal trading machine. Can port it to my dual screen setup when I wanna get some real work done… Or can browse some less intensive stuff on my couch without have a big laptop burning my crotch with its power heat.

I think you’ll like it. Remember, if you don’t like Windows 8 Pro, you can downgrade it to Windows 7 Pro at no additional cost.

You are correct… Just bought it. LOVE IT… Only thing that is slightly disappointing is the battery life… But I can look past it. Makes the iPad seem like a children’s toy to be honest.

They just announced the new upgrade for later this year. 2 more hours of battery life. You just can’t win.:33:

Yeh… When I saw that they took $100 off the price I assumed they would be releasing the next one soon… There is no way it is released later this year though… Next year for sure… And I shall be in line. Lol

You got a good decision to use Microsoft Surface Pro. Nice technology…!
