" emigrated to England in 1947 and, as an impoverished student, lived with his uncle, an Orthodox Jew. His uncle paid his living expenses while he attended the London School of Economics, where he received a Bachelor of Science in Philosophy in 1952 " (George Soros - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia).
Ok so the man was in hungry and one day he thought " hmmmkay i’m tired of beeing poor let’s just go to one of these top university in a developped country "
And he just went to london and studied in this university ? What the **** ? how come ?
The most obvious is that he attended 60 years ago.
It probably wasn’t as crowded of an applicant list. After WWII, there were real jobs available. And financial markets weren’t the focus of attention as they are today. They were probably begging for students.
And of course as a poor hungarian immigrant the first thing he had in mind was to study for an unknown domain like:
"man seems like this stuff is so weird, the fukc is this sh!t " financial market ? " k i got no money so ima try it cuz i wanna learn "
From what i know, poor imigrant are just searching job security and average salary because compared to the country where they come from this is already a great thing. But i could be wrong, maybe this guy had some swagg or something.
I apologize in advance for posting something political in a thread that isn’t overtly political. But, I can’t resist.
In an interesting article in Human Events, 10 reasons are listed why George Soros is dangerous.
Here’s reason #10:
10. Delusions: Soros has repeatedly said that he sees himself as a messianic figure. Who but a megalomaniac would make these comments?
“I admit that I have always harbored an exaggerated view of my self-importance—to put it bluntly, I fancied myself as some kind of god” or
“I carried some rather potent messianic fantasies with me from childhood, which I felt I had to control, otherwise I might end up in the loony bin.”
If only the loony bin were an option. As it is, one of the wealthiest men in the world is using his billions to impose a radical agenda on America.
(I re-formatted that paragraph, and bolded those 2 sentences, for emphasis. Except for those changes, the paragraph is as it appears in the article.)
Excuse my language that has got to be the craziest **** I’ve ever read. Who would have thought one of the richest people in the world would be a skitzo.
It’s not surprising.
Who would be there to tell you no, or keep you grounded?
Extreme wealth breeds a bit of eccentricity, or megalomania. I’ve never met an uber rich person that didn’t have at least a bit of each. (and I’ve met many)
Granted… But we all had stuff like that. Most of us get those fantasies squelched by the meagerness of everyday life for the working class.
He got to nurture them.
Sheldon Adelson is the same way, and he’s right wing…
Edit: I in no way am defending the esteemed Mr Sore-ass… Just merely pointing out that the people who are the most influential, tend to influence the wrong things, for all the wrong reasons, mostly selfish ones (see Rupert Murdoch).
LSE (London School of Economics) has always been a ‘Red Brick’ Uni (Ivy League) There’s Oxford and Cambridge (Oxbridge) with past prof’s like Sir Isaac Newton and current like Stephen Hawking to name but two… compare them to Harvard and Yale… only with a 1200 year Charter! LOL!!! Then there are around ten others (in no particular order) … LSE, Kings College, Bristol (my old uni), Durham, Cardiff, Edinburgh, etc. The students at these tend to be Oxbridge ‘rejects’ i.e. straight ‘A’ students but screwed up the interview!
One of my favorite quotes by Soros is “when everything is in your favor you cannot have a big enough position on.” No wonder the dude is a multi zilllllllionaire!!!
I don’t know Soros biography and frankly I don’t care to read it. One thing I can say is that not all immigrants are looking for job security and average salary. Well, maybe they do in the beginning, but once they have them settled the ones who are meant to be something big will look further to improve their life. If we are talking about people with common sense they usually are much more careful with managing their personal economics than the locals and their children, if they are born and rise in the poor country, usually excel in school.
All people want to improve their living conditions and make better life for themselves. In turn they choose various resources and some are fortunate enough to become famous and earn for themselves both name and fame.
