Hope you are all well. I wondered if it was possible to get some good book suggestions for my research purposes. EBooks would be preferable.
My main interests are price action, candlesticks, support/resistance and pivots. But I also would appreciate anything else that is considered interesting/beneficial to a new student of the markets.
I thank you in advance for your suggestions. I also thank you for all of the material/insights you have already made available. It makes life so much more bearable for those of us who are less knowledgeable about this subject.
Here are some of the books from my list which you should read:
Brett N. Steenbarger - Enhancing Trader Performance (fundamental book before beginning trading career)
Steve Nison - Japanese Candlesticks Charting Techniques ( science and art of candlesticks)
John J. Murphy - Technical Analysis of the Financial Markets ( various technical aspects)
Mark Douglas - Trading in the zone (psychology)
Mark Douglas - The Disciplined Trader (psychology)
Tharp, van K. - Trade Your Way to Financial Freedom (various valuable things)
Although not all of these books are about your mentioned interests, but it’s very valuable books which helps to improve a lot.
Good reading, hope you’ll find interesting things !
I’m sure they’re mentioned on the links/lists that others have posted, but the first two books I read when starting out were Market Wizards and New Market Wizards, both by Jack Schwager. They are not technical, but rather are a collection of interviews with successful traders. They were recommended by my coach, and I found that they really helped me get my head in the right place for trading, set me out with the right take on it, that it is not like other careers and requires quite a different approach from most things. I still read them now and would recommend them to anyone, but particularly newer traders.
The Tharp book from the above list is another I like.
There are many decent TA/PA books out there, but I followed up the Wizards books with Schwager’s own Introduction To Technical Analysis (pretty sure that was the title, it was definitely by Jack Schwager) as I had liked his first two books. Cheap on Amazon and I really liked it, learned a lot from it.
Yea, I also go with the market wizards. Lots of insights how professional traders work.
Be careful with other books particular if psycho is overrated (mostly from psychologists) and so called “secrets revealed” books. There are no secrets what will get revealed by a book. Not even in the market wizard books. It can at it’s best just give you a broad knowledge what others do.
I’ve read minimum 100 books of trading and there is none what gives you the ticket: Read this book and you become rich. To be successful somebody must put a lot of work into trading. Learning, not by just transferring.
~ 95% of traders lose and a lot of them also read those books.
I’ve read a few now, and am currently working my way through my favourite to this point: How to make a living trading foreign exchange by Courtney D Smith
