I just finished the BabyPips school and downloaded a couple free clients. Before I jump into even my demo accounts though, I want to test some movement theories with past data, preferably, played back pip by pip so I can anticipate my behavior in the real market. I’ve heard that NinjaTrader has this capacity for free, but I can’t seem to download historical data. I also have MT4, but have the same trouble downloading prior market data as well. Can someone recommend software for backtesting or comment on how I can do it with the two platforms mentioned? Thanks!
Solved it myself. I am using Forex Tester free, which provides history at least as far back as 2001 for free. There’s some limitations on playback and data, but it’s certainly more than enough to test theories on price action at certain levels.
Interesting response, but insufficient data. I googled “Market Tester” but found nothing of interest. Certainly nothing that sounded even remotely like it could be used for backtesting against forex currencies market data. Could you provide a URL
(without the h-t-t-p stuff) or a better google search term or something else that would help interested readers to find the software you ar talking about?
Thank you very much.
Sorry, it’s Forex Tester 2. Edited original response to reflect this.
Ummm… the last time I looked at the website, Forex Tester was not free. A single copy of the program
costs $199.00. That’s a little too steep for my budget right now, so I quit looking. do they have some
kind of limited or feature-reduced version or flavor of it which is free, or did you just get your copy as a
gift from someone else, so its free to you? (Hoping for the former).
Thanks.
There is definitely a free version. I believe the demo doesn’t end, it just has stringent restrictions, but I’ve only had it a week so this might be wrong.
