Alright. This is my first post, and boy do I feel like a big dummy.
I’ve been doing the demo account through Oanda for a few weeks now, but I’d really like to start using MT. When I install it, I get only a few quotes for currency pairs that I don’t use on the navigator screen, (I want EURUSD, GBPUSD, and USDCHF) and the windows that come up all say ‘WAITING FOR UPDATE’. Needless to say, the update never comes.
I’ve scoured the internet, and it looks like this is a connectivity/ server issue. I am running McAfee firewall, and I’ve tried downloading and installing with the firewall disabled to no avail.
Has anybody else had this problem? How can I fix it and get the quotes I want on there? Everyone here seems pretty kind, and I know I’m an easy target with these questions, but I’d really like some help!
If you have just downloaded MT4 from the metatrader website, then thats why you are not getting the quotes/currency pairs, you must download MT4 from a broker website. I hope this works.
And there are many other mt4 brokers. Though with whom i am trading live with, i can only comment on them at the moment. so far good and happy with them.
If you need any MT4 assistance, just ask. James, or myself or anyexpert will be happy to guide you through.
Hi,
I use Metatrader for 3 weeks but I have problem now with attaching an indicator.
I have put the indicator in the default indicator folder and I can see the indicator among the custom indicators.
The problem is that its color is grey instead of black and I am unable to attach it to the chart.
Does anybody know how could I attach this indicator?
Thanks
Mihali
Sorry for the hijack, but is there any easier way to place orders and stops and limits besides clicking on the order box, modify order, and then make changes… Seems kind of time consuming when scalping.
If you know how to use a script, I have attached 2 scalping scripts for you to use.
Unzip the files and copy into the /experts/scripts folder and restart Metatrader.
When you drag onto a chart, it will open up the properties tab where you can adjust the setting to you own choice.
The variables are :-
[ul]
[li]MagicNumber
[/li][li]Spread limit - will not trade if the spread is too big
[/li][li]tradesize - set a desired lot size here(leave 0 for auto)
[/li][li]take profit in pips
[/li][li]stoploss in pips
[/li][li]risk…if you want the script to automatically set the trade size based on your risk & stoploss then leave the tradesize as 0. The script will calculate your risk as a % loss of equity and convert it to lot size based on the stoploss.
[/li][/ul]
Once you have adjusted the setting just leave the properties box open until the second you want to execute your trade and then press ok.
If you are familiar with MQL4, you can pre-set the variables so you can just drag/drop and execute without the properties dialogue.
Should work on 2/3/4/5 digit ECN brokers/currencies and should look after the micro & mini accounts as well.
It also writes each trade to a CSV file in the /experts/files folder specifically making note of the slippage as this will be of interest if you do a lot of scalping. You can also see the slippage directly after a trade in the experts tab of the terminal.
Makes sure you get to grips with it on demo before you try it live.
Not fully tested so gimme a shout if there is a problem.
A MagicNumber is used by an EA to identify specific trades that it “owns”.
The reason I include it in the script is that instead of using a Takeprofit or a Stoploss, someone may wish to use a trade manager EA to look after the trade and you would feed the Trade Manager EA the MagicNumber so that it knows which trade/s to look after.
If you just want to manually scalp, then you don’t really need to worry, it has no effect on the trade itself.
