MT4 horizontal lines - when I move lines on one pair they automatically move on other pair - how to fix?

So I use horizontal lines in MT4, and for example if I have a line on eur/usd and another one gbp/jpy, when I drag each one, the other one will move too (on it’s own chart). Same happens if I click a line and type in the value - the other line will move. Now this doesn’t happen all the time with all lines, but certain lines are linked for some reason. How do I fix this?

Mate, this is probably not an MT-4 Related thing, but more to do with your computer.

in MT-4
You click on a chart TO SELECT IT
you click on the TOOL to SELECT IT (Horizontal Line) from the tool bar
in the background there is a technical process that associates these 2 things and assumes you want to put the line
on the chart

you then click on the chart
THE LINE IS PLACED

going off that logic that the computer uses to place a line on a chart
or more specifically … to change the colour of a set number of pixels on the Horizontal scale of the Screen Matrix

to change 2 charts of different instruments
YOU WOULD NEED TO SELECT THEM

My question would be
do you have a touch screen ?
do you have a stylus and touchpad or something to that effect ?
if so have you calibrated them ?

if MT-4 is doing this, you could try backing everything up and reinstalling it

or better still
keep the current installation and install another instance of MT-4 and see if IT does it as well
if it does

then it’s your computer
if it doesn’t then it’s the first MT-4 installation

and since the 2nd doesnt do it
you could just reinstall the first, knowing that it will work

but to me, i would check , Mouse and keyboard and input device settings
Uninstall and reinstall from device manager, Your keyboard and mouse
restart your computer.
see how you go
try it again.

The thing is, I feel like sometimes MT4 keeps certain lines selected even when I move to other charts.

that would make sense
because , in a computer system for something to move like this IT MUST BE SELECTED, there is no debate on this point.

if it selected, the CPU Understands that it needs to do something with it
if it is not selected THE CPU WILL DO NOTHING WITH IT

is there perhaps a script or EA or trade manager that is controlling it
check your indicators lists and Expers list to see if something is in the background

try opening another new chart on some weird ass instrument that you never use
see if it still happens

if it doesn’t then
it’s on a certain few pairs alone

and you could close those windows and re open the pairs and see if it happens

Yep, it does - ensure that the little dots at each end of the line are gone (by dbl clicking), then the line will be deselected and remain fixed.

Do you mean single clicking? When I double click it just quickly disappears and reappears
If you do mean single click - I tried that, but it didn’t solve it…

Mate,

go to your Mouse Settings in Control Panel

check that it’s on single click only
Check your sticky buttons as well in Keyboard settings ok

see if this helps

Ohhh…
you are talking about the dot thing hehe

ok

Yeah, doublec click the line, and you’ll notice at either end of the chart there will be a little square
this means it is selected for use

if you double click again the square disappears and the line is set in place

Yep, if the user doesn’t get rid of the dots then the line can easily move accidently, the line remains selected even if he switches to a different chart and switches back.

Moral of the story is no dots

that’s true but my experience has been that the user can only move the lines IF ON THAT CHART
but i suppose it’s not impossible if the lines are selected for editing

ok, well, i guess that fixes that.
thank you
