Not really sure what category this question comes under so I’'ll just post it here since it is using MT4 Mobile software :). For a few months I have been conteplating buying a smartphone from T-Mobile or a PDA (Ipaq, Palm, etc…) to do trading using Metatrader4 Mobile on it. I just want to know if anyone else is currently using a smartphone and how it looks on the display and its ease of use. There are lots of times when I want to check the market but I am not at work/home and it would be nice to be able to look at my charts whenver I choose to see if a trade setup has occurred.
The smartphone from T-mobile (Wing, Dash, etc) is nice but the display is not as large as a palm and you have to pay an extra $30 a month for a data plan but you can also use it at any location where there’s a wireless router or hotspot.
A PDA has a larger display and will work through any wireless router but you must have a bluetooth phone in order to use it if another 802.11 network is not available (like on the golfcourse, hunting, bars, etc…) :D. It would be much nicer to store my outlook email, contacts, schedules, etc…
I’m leaning towards an HP Ipaq PDA since I’m usually near a network 80% of the time and when I’m not I can usually find an unsecured router to connect to. It would also be nice when I’m working around the house to not have to go up to my office just to glance at a chart. If I know I’m travelling than I can activate a data plan on my wireless provider just for the time that I need and use the PDA through bluetooth which is a nice option.
I guess I’m just want to know what other people’s experiences are if any?
Right now I am trying out the MT4 demo version for the Pocket PC on my HTC P3600. It has a QVGA screen. I must say it looks good… It is very easy to use and understand… Just haven’t yet found out how to include other custom indicators… If I actually can…
I have been doing a lot of reading and I know you can’t add custom inidcators. As long as they have the 30 basic indicators / Trendline / Fibo than I am happy. I’m still undecided if I want a pocket pc / pda or just a phone/pda. I don’t want to have to look around for a wireless router to check on my trades like when I’m out on the town :).
(reposting this since I goofed and “edited” my post instead of replying to it :))
Since I started this post I figured I would follow-up with what I did. I’m surprised that there aren’t more people thinking about this since I can’t live without it now. After a month of digging I ended up buy the T-mobile Wing smratphone and I love everything about it. With the factory ROM it was too slow to run Skype but I dig even more digging and ended up reflashing the ROM from all the good folks atg XDA (See link below). The new ROM also had a plug-in to overclock the processor and change the default RAM config so it flies now. I love being able to us Metatrader with my strategy anywhere I am. I trade on the 4 hour chart so just being able to check out my trades every hour or so to adjust my trailing stop and close a portion of my position is nice. I also like it because I can browse the web and forums, play all my music, read all my adobe or office documents, play awesome games, and also check my positions without ever getting out of bed on my wirelss DSL connection :). It’s also nice on the golfcourse, at the bar during Happy Hour, hunting in the woods, you get the point. The only downfall is that T-mobile doesn’t have a high speed 3G network yet but their EDGE/GPRS connection works absolutely fine for what I do and its $40 a month cheaper to boot. I’m glad I went this route and now buy a palm. If anyone elver want to go this route feel free to ask away if you uhave any questions but loos like I’m the only one for now. Unless someone decided to read through this long post
I looked at lots of them since I wanted the large screen but I would have needed an unlocked one to work with T-mobile and I wasn’t paying no $900 or so :(. I love my smartphone anyway since the display looks great with the 2.8" display.
I’m using MT4 mobile on my smartphone. I’m not sure if there’s a difference between the SE mobile & SE but I just liked the way the mobile version looked better. I’m using WM6.1 on my T-mobile Wing.
Sorry, I missed your reply. But to answer the question anyway it is not that good at all. My T-MObile Wing is awesome on battery life (without MT running). With it running the battery life drop 20% in like 1/2 hour . What I do now is just check right before my candle close on the hourly charts since I trade 4 hour charts anyway. If I have a trade on than I will check more often to put able to place a TS if the price moves in my favor. At night I have it plugged in so I leave it run all nihgt. At work or other places I just charge it in any PC’s USB port. I’m still glad I have it since it’s great for times when I am away from my computer for periods of time and its easy enough to charge the battery back up.
