MT4, MT5 or Ctrader

Hi folks, long time listener 1st time caller.

Started playing the game some 7 years ago, have gone round in circles. I then walked away 2+ years ago but have felt an urge lately. So which platform use. I’m was with IC Markets and plan to use them again. I’ll be planning to speculate on the USD, Indices, commodities and stocks. I have some mql4 coding experience for back testing, trade management and watchlist creation but only believe what my eyes see in front of me and thats price as a function of time.

Thank you in advance for your time

I think you’re best served to try both out. I gave both a try, but I’m a newb, so for me they’re very identical from a feature and charting/indicator standpoint.

I don’t use them, but Ctrader has some cool trade execution options combos that MT5 doesn’t offer. I figured once I get myself to that level, that could be a huge benefit.

There’s also the way to break up the different chart windows. I have multiple monitors, so it’s cool to break out certain charts and move them around. Plus, CTrader just feels newer and cleaner. MT5 gets away from the MT4 1980’s design, but you still feel the… oldness.

But MT has the community, where you can get so many addons and EAs. Also, if you’re a Mac user, I think MT4 support is being/is phased out, so MT5 I think is what you’re stuck with moving forward. MT4 is still king of the ecosystem, with tons of EAs and programmers. Many are still making their way over to MT5.

So really, it depends!

I believe MT4 is best for trading forex

I believe the earth is flat. If you wish to respond to me please demonstrate the ability to have original thought.

I believe XYZ is better because bla bla bla.

And I have not the payroll to trade forex.

I prefer MT4 and I use it in real trading. However, I am trying CTrader in demo account. CTrader just feels new and cool.

Hello there, I am a newbie and I have tried all of the platforms, but I don’t know why MT4 feels so real. Like I sometimes shift to the ctrader, but then I don’t know how I end up being on the MT4 once again. :stuck_out_tongue:

when you are taking about mt4, mt5 and c trader why not try out act trader? I have recently started using this new platform and its pretty customised. I am loving it over any other platform.

Here’s why. Data feed. As speculators we interact with and against our CFD issuer. We trade at the price they set. Therefor you and I are left with no choice but to use the platform they offer. If I had the funds I’d be talking to a prime broker for DMA and then have a choice of many platforms, far superior to MT4/5 or cTrader. But I don’t so have to use what is available to me. Thus the question.

As good as reason as any - NOT!

Right folks, I am not a noob. As I said. I have 5 years under me then walked away. Now I have come back. I have some MQL4 coding skills. And I have independent thoughts. Don’t bore me with this noob BS which I have no time for. Unless you can offer real advice and experience support then don’t waste yours or my time

I would go for MT5. You can customize it and use it for trading all kinds of assets - Forex, ETFs, stocks, crypto currencies.

No matter at what level of trading you are, I think MT4 is the best trading platform for forex trading.

I have been a supporter and user of MT4 throughout. In fact that’s one of my criterias to select a broker.

MT4 if you are going to trade currencies only.

No doubt mt4 is a great platform for trading currencies. But lately I started using mt5 and considering the experience, I suppose it’s worth trying. I mean why not try both hedging and netting when you get an option to do so. I was also surprised by how well I could expand my trading horizon with access to CFDs, Stocks, and futures.

So you’re suggesting that mt5 is better than mt4? But what if I want to use both? Say I want to use mt4 account in mt5

both is better , honestly speaking and choice is yours. the main issue is which is comfort for you to bring good environment.

No, I’m not the one who would tell a fellow trader to switch. Then again, what’s the harm in trying out a new platform that has better functionalities? I have many friends who are very comfortable using mt4 because of the ease of use and an access to customize the interface according to their trading requirements. I just benefited from the additional time frames in the latter that allowed me to analyze the market better tagged along with more charts options and economic calendar. You can’t use mt4 in mt5. However, there are brokers like FXTM, HotForex and Fxview offering both the platforms and easily allowing you to switch.

I suggest you mt5 .
It is the default choice for every mt4 broker that looks for something up to date.
Once you master OOP mql5 it is much better than mql4.
Backtesting is much better than mt4.

It doesn’t really matter, use mt4/5/ctrader for trade execution and tradingview for analysis, alerts etc
