Does anyone use MT4 on a dual or greater array or monitors.
I only ask this question as the individual charts can not be ‘popped out’ and so I cant see how you would be able to shift different price charts onto various PC monitors.
At the moment I use a single 23inch monitor, but would like to invest in a triple monitor PC. Trying to look at 5 or more charts at the same time on a single monitor is proving to be a headache, even at the best of times!
You aren’t able to pop the charts out of the MT4 window, but if you un-maximize the MT4 window, you can drag the window across multiple screens. So basically you have one window that spans 3 monitors. You can move charts wherever you want then.
Above works for using a single account. I use my live account and a demo so I can have both running at one time which lets me run multiple screens. Some brokers will allow you to log in multiple times which will do the same function. How ever the above works fine to.
Strangley i was thinking this exact thing a few days ago. I actually sold my two other monitors a while back but now i regret it. Your right its a real headache trying to fit all your charts in. I always used to wonder before i got into trading why people had six monitors i was always like… well thats a bit over the top isnt it? but now i realise its pretty much a nessecity if your trading alot of currencies.
Get a widescreen 2000px wide 24"+, they are really great for trading and great for everything else too, and not expensive at all, I wish I’d not waited until my last monitor packed in before getting one.
I’m currently running three monitors right now. Take a look at a software called “Actual Multiple Monitors”, it can expand windows and switch them back and forth. Plus some more features. It’s nice, I typically trade with 3 TFs open, so 1 chart per screen. Works great.
I use 3 monitors. You can either stretch the MT4 screen across however many monitors you want or you can install multiple instances of the same MT4 and open 1 per screen.
The hardest part is making sure your video card will allow for 3 screens and what adapters (passive/active) you may need. What happens a lot of the time, and with my own video card, there will be 3 slots for monitors but they will all be different ports. They really don’t matter unless you have two non display ports and then 1 display port (or mini). You can use the first two fine and will be able to use two monitors with no problems but, if your 3 port is a display port and your monitor does not have a display port, you will be an ACTIVE display port adapter. A passive one will not work. This is only a problem though if you are trying to use 3 monitors for some reason. If you need help just PM me.
Most video cards only accept 2 monitors at a time. You can run as many as you want with adapters but they all will show the same screen. I no longer run that many monitors like I used to. But they sell an adapter I think the above is talking about. It is kinda pricey but works well. I will try to find the link where I got mine but you can find them on ebay if you know what you are looking for.
The adapters have nothing to do with how many monitors your card will support. If your card only supports two and you have 50 ports, you’re gonna have 2 monitor support. You need to buy one with 3. Assuming Jezzode has done that, or will, he then needs to figure out what ports the card has on it. If the card only has 3 ports and one of those ports is a display port he will need an active display port adapter if his monitor does not have a display port. If he does not use the an active display port adapter then the last port (the display port) will not work and he will only have 2 monitors working instead of 3. Trust me, I’ve already gone through all of this a while ago.
My card supports 3 monitors but not all of the ports on the card are the same. I have DVI, HDMI, and display port. My monitors only support DVI and HDMI. If I was planning on just using 2 monitors then DVI and HDMI would work just fine but because I wanted 3 I needed my last monitor to adapt to display port. In order for this to work the adapter needed to be an active display port adapter (I forgot the technical reasons why, but it just needed to be “active”). If you were to use just a regular (passive) display port adapter then it wouldn’t work and only the DVI and HDMI monitors would function.
P.S., why would you want more than 1 monitor displaying the same thing? I’ve always went with the extended desktop option (extend these displays).
IBFX released some code to provide pop-out charts… I believe they got the code from a vendor that did plug-ins for their platform. Most of their custom plugins require you to run it on an IBFX MT4 install, but this one works on any MT4 install and does what you want…

I know it works because I use it on my Oanda and Pepperstone MT4 installs.
