Does anyone know a way to have multiple charts open across three screens using mt4? or 5. I can’t find anyway to “unpin” them.
hang on… hang on a second
Is your question
How to we have multiple Charts open across 3 Screens
or
How do we unpin them
Now. i have 8 Monitors over 2 computerse
1 computer has 2 Monitors
the second computer has 6 Monitors
SO I CAN ASSURE YOU… You are talking to the right person hehe
Probably a better question is this
WHAT ARE YOU TRYING TO ACHIEVE ?
Let me throw a few ideas out at you ok
-
if you like to use MT-4 as do i UNPINNING IS NOT AN OPTION
You WILL NOT BE ABLE TO GO BEYOND THE PARAMETERS OF THE MT-4 SCREEN
that’s that. -
However, YOU CAN STRETCH THE MT-4 Screen (Resize it if you will)
in the past i have installed MT-4 on my system with 6 Monitors and had it spread over all the monitors.
so it can be done
i now have my MT-4 installed on the computer with 2 Monitors
- DECIDE, UP/DOWN or SIDE BY SIDE
this will be defined by how you trade
Feel free to have a look at my UNDER OVER SETUP over 2 monitors
let me explain it to you
-
as you can see i have 13 charts open to give me insight into what’s going on
-
THIS IS THE BOTTOM MONITOR
the 2 bottom charts US2000 M30 (Left) , US2000 H4 (Right)
above that US2000 M1 , US500 M1 US500 Monthly -
Everything above that is the second monitor
-
now the reason why i trade in this under over fashion is because of the way that i look at Correlating pairs over different timeframes.
now. if you have a different system, then maybe side by side suits you better,
IT’S A PERSONAL THING
so how did i do this.
well, in the same way that you can open a window and drag the corners or top or bottom to resize it,
i dragged MT-4 Window up until it went over 2 screens
THERE IS A DOWNSIDE TO THIS
here it is
- I video (Screen record) all my trades, and the Recordable screen area is 2 Monitors.
so… when the file finishes recording.
if i send it to someone with 1 Monitor , or… 2 Monitors side by side, YOU CAN’T REALLY SEE A LOT, everything is really small
it has to be played on a computer with monitors above and below
so assume it’s personal use, it’s fine
if you plan on sharing… IT’S NOT
THAT’S HOW YOU HAVE MULTIPLE CHARTS OPEN ACROSS MULTIPLE SCREENS
NOW DETACHING
- Well. perhaps you want to try C-Trader, C-Trader can detach windows
BUT THEN you have to give up MT-4
which i personally think is better
BUT… THERE IS ANOTHER WAY AROUND IT
BUT AGAIN… it becomes a question of what do you want to do ?
Here is what i do TO GIVE SOME INSIGHT
I require MT-4 for placing trades, because it’s easy and simple and fast.
i have to rely on it, that’s the point
so… I RELY ON MT-4
Having 1 Monitor is bloody useless, that’s why i have 2 on my trading computer
and i have the charts laid out in this way for many reasons that i won’t go into here
but let’s just say
IT’S BECAUSE THIS IS HOW I TRADE AND IT WORKS FOR ME
so i can see stuff AT A GLANCE
Moving forward
BUT… when i do analysis , i do it on my other computer
now JUST TO GET THIS OUT OF THE WAY
People ask the following question
“Martin… but do you really really need 6 monitors on that computer ?”
ANSWER : PROBABLY NOT hehe
but let me say this as well
it’s not showing off… ok
I’m an I.T. Engineer by trade
before these 8 screens or 6 on one computer, i had 3 screens (Which requires a basic video card, Most will have 4 outputs max, but always 3 outputs in most cases)
i find that for my I.T. work and also trading, 3 Monitors were always full
I thought 4 or 5 might do me
BUT I HAD THIS OPPORTUNITY TO BUY GET 4 FOR THE PRICE OF 6
with the bracket included
i thought it was good deal so i took it
anyway
ihave my 6 monitors currently set up as 3 on top , 3 on bottom (2x3 formation)
the bottom middle monitor is always reserved as the desktop and is never covered
now. when i’m trading
i generally have 2 calenders open, and i put them on 1 monitor (the top middle, above the desktop
the top left
and bottom left are also used for various things related to trading
and i then have the bottom right monitor showing bloomberg news videos
i generally use 4 - 5 monitors all the time and usually have 1 -2 doing nothing.
now at times forex gets boring, so on teh spare monitor i pop on a movie to watch while trading
during my normal work
i find that i can do multiple things easily , checking email, multiple windows visible at once, it’s much faster and much more productive for work as well
NOW. ALL THAT ASIDE
LE’TS DISCUSS DETACHING WINDOWS
MATE, YOU REALLY REALLY NEED TO CHECK OUT NETDANIA NETSTATION
Now, if you the only reason you need detacheable windows is VIEW THE CHART
then netdania is your solution
so if you are viewing different charts, but
placing the trade on MT-4 then yeah… go with netdania
get an account, it’s free
you can tray netdania online , PERSONALLY I DOWNLOAD IT TO MY DESKTOP
it takes a while to work out Netdania
My advice would be
go there
in the netstations create a NEW PROFILE, clear away all the crap and add 1 thing at a time until it all makes sense
you don’t need to open a demo account with them,
it’s just an account so you can access netstation, that’s all
now, if you need to place trades, THEN THAT’S DIFFERENT,
Maybe C-Trade is the way to go then
so again, WHAT DO YOU ACTUALLY NEED TO DO ?
Thank you for such a comprehensive reply.
I have three monitors, top monitor for news, trade history etc then two below which are side by side. I want to have 6 to 8 charts open across these two screens, ideally I would like more but I don’t think my computer supports more screens than that (no more video type connections available). I like to see what various instruments are doing compared with others over the same time frame. I don’t need to trade from mt4 just use the charts. I will have a look at Netdania.
@Y4X
well, in that case if you just need to view it
NETDANIA NETSTATION is something you definitely want to look at
you can detach screens, it’s awesome
as for More monitors
it’s not that your computer doesn’t support it
IT’S THAT YOUR GRAPHICS CARD DOES NOT
i think for around $400 you can buy a graphics card that will have up to around 6 inputs.
it may not be beefy for that price range, but it will have the inputs
the other thing you can do with your card that supports only 3 outputs is this
FOR EACH OUTPUT… Get a Splitter
that way you can attach 6 monitors to a card that has 3 outputs hehe (See how that works)
it’s the cheapy way to going around 6 monitors
but given what you’ve said, I THINK NETSTATION IS YOUR BEST BET… Definitely
Why make it so complicated?
@Pont
this is just a question FYI
but, what part do you think he is complicating
because i can see 2 points of views here
View 1. Having More Monitors and putting up more charts but without having any real value other than looking cool
or
View 2 - as he said, to view multiple timeframes or other things at once
i can see the pro’s and cons in both views
what do you think he is complicating ?
In my experince once you start working with multiple monitors, it improves productivity and perspective greatly!
…only downside is that when I go back to a single screen laptop while mobile, I feel handy capped!
MT5 has the functionality built in. Just right click on the chart and select “Docked”, or click on the chart and type “Control+D”, it will undock the chart and you can move it outside of the MT5 screen to any other monitor.
When I was playing with MT4, I came across some of the following, but decided to just switch to MT5.
…so none of these are recommendations, just “notes”…
FloatingCharts, BigBroking, GlobalPrime, ForexStrivers
…or search for Undocking MT4 screens,
Good luck!
