Need help with spotting correct market session opens on my MT4 chart

Hello there,

i would like to ask if somebody could tell me what could be the problem here.

I am using a broker with GMT+2 chart/server time during standard/winter time and GMT+3 if summer time is active.

The actual UK session open is always 08:00 am local UK time no matter if winter/summer.

I am using the MT4 trading platform. I installed a session indicator called “4 Sessions” to highlight the UK session open to me. The indicator has options to adjust for daylight saving times and is set to summer=3, winter=2.

Now i would assume that for any date scrolled back in time where we had still summer time in place, the UK open to be located at the start of the 11:00 price candle. (08:00 +3).

However the actual UK open on the chart below for October 29 is at the start of the 10:00 H1 price candle marked my the red vertical line.

The indicator as expected plotted the start of the UK session at the correct 11:00 time

It’s kind a confusing me. In this case i would NOT have to adjust for daylight saving times and keep having the indicator start drawing the box at the start of the 10:00 instead of using 11:00 during summer time?

I would basically like to manually scroll back a complete year of past price action having the correct UK Open automatically highlighted at the right spot on my chart no matter if summer/winter time was in place.

The chart below shows the UK open for the summer time date Oct 29 at 10:00 instead 11:00. For last Friday where it was already winter time the UK open marked by the indicator is shown correct at 10:00.

That is no answer to my question. And which session is more important or not is totally up to the individual trader. The New York session is rather unimportant to me.

London Open 7 AM GMT (summer) / 8 AM GMT (winter)

So if the server/chart time with the broker I am using is GMT+2 (winter) and GMT+3 (summer) it would mean the correct UK Open is to be found at the start of the 10:00 AM H1 price bar on my chart independently of this is a summer time date or winter right?

The difference is always 2 hours and there would be no need for me to have the session indicator automatically adjust for DST and switch between 10:00 and 11:00 as i thought i would have to. It will be always 10:00 and therefor the session open could be highlighted for 10:00 through out the complete year?

Hope you take this as rude, but what’s your question? How do you adjust the indicator, or is what the indicator showing me correct?

I would go back to whoever made the thing and ask them. Some tools literally only affect price data once they’re being used. Go back and in time, and the tool does nothing. I’d check with the developer.

Trading sessions are very simple. To understand this you can add an indicator with mt4.
