New(ish) Trader w/ an Obsession Problem 😅

Hey Y’all,

Already made a few posts but just noticed this thread!

I’ve traded on and off since about 2013 or 2014… in a very amateur way. Started with binary options from some dumb course. Went quite predictably. :chart_with_downwards_trend::sob::boom:

2017 got me into crypto, especially Bitcoin. Believe in its thesis. At least, I believe in the thesis that it is likely to reach at least a double-digit market cap. Bought another course or two and tried to trade a little bit but failed to make enough time for it consistently…

However, I continued to play around with it on and off until a few months ago when…

I remembered a stash I had from like 6 years ago!

Nothing huge, but I think it might be enough to make this a full-time thing—or at the very least, semi-automate myself a little money machine.

Crazy timing, because I’ve been spending most of my spare time on my dinky little trading and investing blog since about this time last year.

I was already thinking to myself:

“It’s time to go DEEP on the numbers and risk management and see if I can do this.”

I'm Ready to Pledge My Life to the Pip's Watch

I learn best by writing enormous (somewhat pretentious :man_shrugging:t4:) research articles.

They are a product of my obsessive personality and my natural long-windedness.

Anyway, I’m here to read a lot and ask a bunch of questions. All the results on Google give the same answers except for the forums and Q&A sites. But its so annoying to earn your way to asking questions on most sites (ie. Reddit comment karma).

Babypips forum, however, didn’t make it to painful and the community has already been a great help. :heartpulse:

Thank you!

Trading’s a fasinating subject that inevitably leads towards opportunities to understand technical analysis, economics, geo-politics, crowd psychology etc.

But before starting any research or learning programme, it is always more productive to begin with the answers, not the questions.

Define what you absolutely must understand and then own those things. If journalling and lengthy exposition of your thoughts appeal to your nature, start with the “final report” - imagine a document you must write and then present on to your boss. They will want facts, statistics, hard evidence and then a simple 5-minute concise delivery. Write the document before you start the research. Then find the evidence you need to present it.

Wow!

What a great idea for a writing/learning exercise!

If this were your style, what would be the top 3-5 things you would start with as your “must understand” topics/skills?

Cheers.

There is only one essential skill in trading - competence in technical analysis.

The other skills build on what you do with TA.
