I signed up to a couple only to find you cannot sell without first buying in these shares; do you know of site that allows naked-short selling (non-CFD - or maybe this is CFD by definition, I’m unsure…)?
Thanks.

Generally speaking, one must apply for a margin account to be able to sell short. That may be your issue.
And no, short selling in stocks isn’t quite like CFDs. You have to actually borrow the shares (via your broker, of course) before you are able to sell them.
Any recommendations please where I can do this
Can’t speak to other jurisdictions, but all the US stock brokers I’m aware of fill the bill.
ok I signed up with x-o and iii and they do not offer this… some of the others require a very small deposit before acessing their service so wouldn’t want to pay only to find it’s not possible… I’m in the UK, if you know any providers across both our regions please let me know… Like you I would hav thought most would provide it ‘de facto’ though my experience is saying otherwise…
I never said anything like “de facto”. I said quite the opposite - that margin trading is usually something you need to apply for separate from opening a new account.
ok I’m not understanding so can you recommend a specific company name (for the retail trader) so at least I can look into it for myself, find their competitors/ alternatives etc… and get to grips with what’s going on…?
Charles Schwab is perhaps the biggest names in US stock brokerage.
