For the past 36 hours, I’ve been raving about the results of the PH election because the pre-election surveys kinda pushed me into the verge of hopelessness for the country. But, I’m just glad that we’re seeing the tides turning!
Voters are younger but also smarter and more critical.
If we keep this pace, I can’t wait to see what happens in 2028!
Singson about the youth vote: “…they’re a very potent force and a major force to look out for.”
I hope that youth voters also make a difference in elections in other countries!
What do you think the minimum age should be, for voting in elections, @ria_rose ? Do you think it should be the same in every country?
Oooooh. That’s such an interesting question Big-Al!
To be honest, I think I’m good with 18 years old cause I’d like to think that a lot of people have already developed critical thinking skills by then.
(Though in reality, we know that’s not always the case.
)
Another thought I’m considering is, if they’re old enough to understand the consequences and the responsibility that comes with their vote, then they should be given the chance to vote.
The high from last week’s election results has subsided. But moving forward, I’m sure many of us Filipinos will be excited for 2028, feeling more optimistic and hopeful.
It’s 18 here (UK). There’s a lot of debate about bringing it down to 16. Really a lot.
Including people making the (indisputable) point that if it had been 16 at the time of the Brexit referendum, then we’d still be in the European Union. The opinion poll evidence on this was overwhelming.
Lol, I have a degree in developmental and adolescent psychology, so I have no personal opinion at all, on this point - only a professional one.
I have never voted in my life.
The world is run by psychos - why would I want to vote for a psycho?
If no one voted and encouraged these psychos, the world would be a better place.
That is not my professional opinion
Lol, I hear you.
I was just too young (by a few weeks) to vote in the Brexit referendum amost 9(!!) years ago. I wouldn’t have minded having a vote, but was mostly pleased that the voting age was 18, not 16, as I’d have voted for Brexit anyway, unlike almost everyone I knew. I thought the EU was anti-democratic at its heart and a bit corrupt.
I thought the Euro was a stupid currency, too. I’m mentioning it only to legitimise my post, because this is a forex trading forum.
