Here’s a post I found on another forum with advice to address our very own Troll problem. Some of you may be quite familiar with this annoyance and know what to or not to do. Consider it another test and development of one’s self discipline which can only benefit our trading success
First, what is a Troll. Wikipedia says:
In Internet Forums
A person who enters unknown forums who bashes and insults forum members with unfounded arguments, or anyone that enters any sort of internet community for the sole purpose of harassing others is often referred to as a troll.
But really, a Troll is more (and less) than that. A Troll posts inflammatory messages for the sole purpose of getting attention. It’s true that this does include harrassing others but it can also range to messages on any and all topics that might draw rebuttals from anyone on the board. Once a single reply is posted the Troll has met his or her goal of being important enough for response and attention.
At times this abberrant behaviour can actually be entertaining, especially when a message board attracts two or more Trolls who then battle to see who is King Troll (if you will) and therefore deserves the most attention. Unfortunately, I have also seen boards effectively killed as the more responsible and mature members, tired of the constant demands to feed the Troll’s ego, drift away.
So, what is the best way course of action to follow should your local forums become Troll-infested? Once identified, the Troll could be banned but returning under a different name and IP address is just too easy and results in the Admin playing a constant game of seek-and-destroy. The best way, in my nearly 30 years of online experience, to deal with a Troll is to simply ignore it. Do not, under any condition or provocation, reply to ANY of the Troll’s messages. You have to understand that NOTHING you can write, no matter how astute or well argued, will deter the Troll from its choosen purpose. The Troll, lacking the attention his or her damaged ego so desperately needs, will go elsewhere and you can get back to the business of building your online community
…and just put him/them on your ignore list (your personal stoploss :D)
So only who bashes is a troll?
I see a huge “troll” in here
who talks of nothing but religious
nonsense riddled with anti-government
BS, speckled with conspiracy insanity.
But since he doesn’t “bash” anyone
directly, he is not a “troll” right?
I would also add that people who
copy and paste utter nonsense
is also a Troll. Clearly, most people
in here are not winning traders.
Nope… Same person.
Because both usernames
only post things that
take up this much of
the page. Like it is a
copy and paste job or
something. You have
been caught.
lol!!! there will always be naysayers and people who are so afraid that all they can do is throw stones, ow well for me i love this place its like cheers and now i know everybodys name hehehehhe
If you can’t guess the two usernames that are the same person, It is JonnyFX and ECN-Scalper. Same guy.
Anyone offended by this thread identifies themselves as a troll. simple human psychology. I almost thought they’d be smart enough not to post and admit that to everyone
They’re just upset because their dads used to beat them. They always vowed when they got old enough they would even the score. The problem is, they are now old enough, but their dads still kick their a$$.
So today, they use the safety of the keyboard to give them what they never had and just hope their daddy is not on the same forum.
And yes, JonnyFX and ECN-Scalper (whatever that means, exactly) are obviously the same individual: format, “location”, the repetitive misapplication of the word “psychobabble” among others, and a penchant for bombastic denunciations in just about every post.
I’ve never understood the inverse correlation between posting invective on forums and W/L ratio, but everyone that does that first seems to inevitably end up with good statistics for the second. Maybe someone could explain this…
"One who uses the internet as a front for acting like a tough guy gang member, usually because they are hoping to gain the respect that they lack in their real life.
Sometimes say things like “ya’ll white ass crackaz would get shot if ya came to my hood *****” when they are really just a skinny, middle class white loser who lives with their mum in the suburbs."
