Private Message Spam

I am a new member. I am wondering, is there anything which one can or should or might do, when one receives unwanted spammy private messages from unknown people trying to sell stuff, here? Or just delete and ignore?

Thank you in advance for any advice!

I assume you’re talking about somebody trying to sell something via PM. You can flag it as spam for moderation.

Although why would you want to when you talk to them and get sent charts like the one I got yesterday. Look at this work of beauty and tell me how you wouldn’t be able to make millions when you see how the market is moving like this…

I don’t get spam mesages from babypips members. But I can’t say why - there’s nothing obvious in my Profile settings that would disable these…

Thank you. But how? :pensive:

Yes - although possibly with charts as with movies one person’s “beauty” is another person’s “porn”? :open_mouth:

I think probably I got them through being new? Spammers will seek out naive noobs, maybe?

I’ve had 2 in the last month. One trying to sell me some information and strategy that is embedded in the image above. The other asking to start a hedge fund and he’d teach me how to trade.

This forum is absolutely full of spam and AI drivel. I think the forum thinks the new threads bring people into the forum, but I think the lack of value in 90% of the threads is what drives people away.

On a computer, there are three dots at the bottom of the message, click that and then the flag icon. Don’t know how to do it from phone etc

Thank you! This is exactly what I had not found, and needed. :sunglasses:

I agree “more than 100%” with all that!

I think most people do. But many are silent and possibly the forum staff do not understand that most people do?

This has never happened to me, but I’m sure you could flag the messages for the moderation team

Hi @maria_fp! This definitely should not be your experience. I checked to confirm this issue and it looks like we did receive your flag and said member has now been suspended. Thanks for letting us know!

You can switch PM’s off.

Go to profile, select ‘preferences’ tab.

Left side - select ‘notifications’

Scroll down to 'messages and then deselect 'allow others users to send me pm’s

Happy Christmas

I agree.

But that arises mostly over the forum’s use of bots, doesn’t it?

With the recent upgrades, the option to enable and disable personal messages has moved to a new place:

  1. Go to your Profile | Preferences | Users and find the Messages section.
  2. Uncheck the box next to “Allow other users to send me personal messages and chat direct messages” to disallow other members from sending you personal messages.

Let me know if you have any issues.
