Okay…
I’ve read some absolutely inane things in my time, but this takes the cake…
And no, it’s not a hoax… You can’t make this crap up.

We tend to blame the IRS for the giant load of crap known as “the tax code”. But, just as this Debt Reduction foolishness illustrates, it’s Congress that invents this stuff. The IRS is merely tasked with trying to comprehend what Congress wants, to collect the taxes, and to pursue anyone they think is dodging their tax responsibility.
Here are some of my favorite provisions from “the tax code”. These are printed in an IRS publication, but it was Congress that dreamed up this stuff:

Bribes.
If you receive a bribe, include it in your income.
Illegal activities.
Income from illegal activities, such as money from dealing illegal drugs, must be included in your income on Form 1040, line 21, or on Schedule C or Schedule C-EZ (Form 1040) if from your self-employment activity.
Kickbacks.
You must include kickbacks, side commissions, push money, or similar payments you receive in your income on Form 1040, line 21, or on Schedule C or Schedule C-EZ (Form 1040), if from your self-employment activity.
I, for one, am very careful to report profits from all of my criminal enterprises on my tax return. I don’t want to get into trouble with the IRS.
Sooo… I guess it’s okay to be a drug dealer as long as you pay income tax?
LMAO
If they want taxes from illegal activities, and a boost in tax income in general, they are using the wrong side of the tap.
See, if you got the dollars as they were SPENT, taxes would go down for all of us
Give us our full incomes, and stop the charade of the “income tax”.
As more people become permanently unemployed, they are dropping out of the tax system, and relying on cash incomes. Aside from state sales tax, those go federally untaxed unless they buy fuel, tobacco items, or alcohol.
SOOOOO get the illegals, the drug dealers, the cash incomes and every other manner of untaxed by taxing the OUTFLOW.
Taxes would go down for all of us, there would be no more tax evaders, and the IRS would still be gainfully employed making sure that merchants paid in the share they collected. If people need assistance, give them a card that allows exempt status.
Any issues with that kind of thinking that anyone else can see?
Typically, there are two objections raised to replacing the income tax with a national sales tax.
The first objection is that all sales taxes are regressive, meaning that lower-income individuals pay a higher percentage of their incomes in sales taxes than do higher-income individuals. It has long been part of liberal thinking in this country that taxes should be progressive, not regressive. (Maybe that’s part of the reason why liberals lately prefer to be called “progressives”, rather than liberals.)
The second objection raised to replacing the income tax with a national sales tax is that many individuals and businesses will resort to bartering both goods and services, taking a giant chunk of commerce off the books, and leaving no paper-trail for the tax authorities to follow. I don’t know whether that’s a valid objection, or not.
This is already in full bloom.
Under the table jobs, or goods swaps are proliferating at an ever increasing rate. I see it in my business every day. An awful lot of “off the books” talk happens in the home remodeling, and blue collar trades these days.
As for the “progressive/regressive” idea, to fix the gap between the higher and lesser incomes, capital gains, or a heavier luxury tax on high end items would change that.
It’s a shame that congress is so myopic anyway. They don’t think outside the box, they can only see what’s been done before, and either model some hacked up idea after it, or throw money at it.
Yesterday’s NFP report is proof positive that current tactics are massive failure.
