Retracing or reversing

I’m always unsure if the pair is retracing or reversing. What is the best way to tell for sure?

Thanks

I’ll update my blog today with an article on how I measure reversals versus retracements…

should have it up later today.

well when the market is trending, lets say up, then price rises like a step. with higher high (HH) and higher low (HL) and then on to another HH and another HL and this continues and on any time frame you can see it. When price makes the HL back down off the HH - then thats a retrace, epecially when price carries on back above the previous HH.
A reversal will occur when price come down of the HH and makes a HL and then doesnt make it back up to the previous HH (it may get close - double top) and then continues down making a new Lower Low (LL), lower than previous HL, and then so on price steps up to a Lower High (LH) and then LL and so on.
in ranging market price is just going up and down between resistance points (range)
