Running EA on MT4, sleep mode off, EA still gets disabled

Anybody run an EA on Windows 7 overnight, sleep mode = “never” in power management…but in the morning the EA is disabled? Does MT4 require a certain amount of user activity to keep the EA enabled?

Thanks in advance!!
Robert

There will be other things going on within Windows 7. There are a number of areas that can go into sleep mode behind the scenes due to inactivity including your router.

The only practical way to run trading systems is via a reliable VPS or similar that are setup to always be ‘active’

Thanks Michael. Wow. I was planning on using my computer at home for this. I wonder if I can set up simulated activity on my computer somehow!

Thanks again,
Robert

For some short term simulation you could be ok, but it sounds like you would need to work out what is happening with your hardware bios settings or s/w operating system and or router settings that is contributing to this issue.

If you intend to be running 24/7 running it may need $35 month forking out. A benefit of a good VPS is that they incorporate some tools you can set up like getting it to restart the MT4 platform and the EA if there is a crash etc.

I would advise using a VPS independant of brokerages.

Thanks Michael. I’ll take a look at my computer first…but I might have to use a VPS.

There is no reason why the EA cannot run overnight as far as settings on Win7.
I run multiple EA’s on multiple MT4 platforms 6 to be exact.

Here are my sleep settings.
Under Hardware and Sound:Power Options
"Balanced" is selected
then click “Change Plan Settings” Display is set to sleep in 2 hrs and computer to sleep in 3hrs.

What exactly do you mean when you say it is disabled?
Does the smiley face disappear or is the green icon in the toolbar now red?

If the smiley face is still visable and the icon in the toolbar is still green then it is more than likely the EA itself. Try another EA and see if that one stays enabled would be my first suggestion.
