Setting up and evaluating trading systems

Hi all,

As I’m learning more I’m starting to think about setting up systems to test ideas and implement systems. There are lots of ways to do this, from hand-coding custom software solutions to doing it manually.

What did you try first and how did that work out for you ?

i tried copying other people’s methods, from what i’d been taught from a variety of sources, believing that they “must work”

it worked out awfully badly for me

then i learnt how to backtest reliably and effectively, and that transformed my whole approach
