I am completely new to trading and would like to know whether I should be learning fundamental analysis at this stage or whether to just focus on technical analysis?

Time frame is a big factor in that decision. If you’re a long-term player, fundamentals could be a good way to go, but in the short-term they don’t change frequently enough to be of much trading value.
Don’t ever neglect the fundamentals! Too many n00bs only focus on Technicals. DONT!
Place a larger emphasis on fundamentals but use technical analysis to make entry points that will complement the fundamentals. For example right now we all now Canada is doing bad against almost every country and in a bearish trend. So you should use support and resistance to mark entry points in order to enter the trend at the right time to maximize profit.
