STOCK MARKET REVIEW:2nd jan 2012

The first trading session on Dalal Street finished on a positive note, kicking off the new year in green territory after clocking hefty losses last year. One should bear in mind the fact that the advance today came on light trading volumes as many participants were enjoying extended new year holidays. The depth was also missing due to lower participation in the equity markets.

BSE Sensex ended at 15,517, up 63 points or 0.4% over the previous close. It had earlier touched a day’s high of 15,542 and a day’s low of 15,358. It had opened at 15,534. NSE Nifty closed at 4,636, up 12 points or ~0.3% over the previous close. It earlier touched a day’s high of 4,645 and a day’s low of 4,588. It had opened at 4,640.
The BSE Mid-Cap index was almost unchanged and the BSE Small-Cap index ended slightly higher, up 0.11%.
CNX MIDCAP 50 index was up 0.67% and S&P CNX 500 was up 0.13%.
