Market maker makes the markets, he will always take the opposite trades if no order is processed at your position size and direction.And thats why it has fixed spread because it knows all the positions out there, so it may stop-hunt you.
An STP is getting its orders from itself and their liquidity provider and since all LP have unique spreads, the broker’s spread will vary too to take advantage of the best spread possible, while it will give you the worst spread.But the good thing is that these types of brokers are more reliable and safe, but they can lagg more if they have crappy connection to their LP.
I myself also trade with an STP.
