Im going travelling soon and want to trade whilst on the move - therefore Im in need of a more mobile/‘easy to carry’ device.
Has anyone got any recommendations? particularly looking for lightweight, relatively solid performance and anything else that anyone feels would be benficial for my situation. Im aiming to spend approx £500
I guess the quality and availability of the internet connection is more critical than the disc space or processor speed of a reasonable laptop when you travel.
Do you want to trade from a web-based platform or a workstation download? Some people are apparently content with a tablet. Personally I always use just a mid-range laptop when I’m travelling with a mobile, chargeable Wifi.
I am now only using laptop with cheap of price, which using brand Lenovo, with 14 inch screen, most important I think indeed if about speed connection internet, but indeed speed of computer also influenced on trading, will very annoying is we want to open new order or closed order but computer being slow responding, it will disturbing us to making instant execution
I run a Lenovo too about 4 years old. Hard drive went down and I got a “Seller refurbished” off teh bay with windows 10 and Office pre-loaded. for about £35. It is way better than it was speed wise and does NOt go through all the “lenovo rubbish” as it starts up !
There is a bit of “lenovo” left in the bios I think and it has a little sulk once in a while, but way better than the original.- so much so - I’m about to double the RAM !
My analysis will be conducted via Tradingview - with the main intention to be placing trades via my phone (having analysed…)
I apprecaite the internet connection is vital! I’m travelling S.E Asia so I’d suspect it won tbe perfect all the time haha… but then onto Australia, where I’d imagine its a bit more practical to find a connection. I’m intending to work off Wifi but I may look to invest in some sort of monthly data programme…
Is there any specific brand/spec you’d recommend based on your experience?
I am by no means an expert on these things but i have always used a mid range Toshiba or HP laptop and nowadays with a nominal 100mbit mobile broadband and a 4G mobile phone service.
But when abroad i have usually relied on the local WiFi provider - but i don’t trade much abroad so i can’t really say to much about that!
If you are unsure about your connections while you are traveling then at least remember to always put a stop order in - just in case!
I don’t know whether your broker is providing chances to trade from mobile application and tablet. If you have access to the mobile application of your broker, you can enjoy more comfortable trading.
You must have to use new generation laptops. As they are fast and having more options. Your laptop can’t be hang while doing trade so that your important time can’t be waste. Battery timing of laptop should be good so that your laptop can’t be off when you are trading.
I trade using an Asus GL502 VMZ laptop and a 3 monitor setup. Of course, that is a bit extreme but anything with a decent processor should be fine.
I would recommend an i7 processor, at least 8gb of RAM and an SSD (128-256 GB) hard drive (Just because taking forever to load applications is annoying)
Most important is your internet connection, the latency on your transactions could cause unnecessary slippage on your trades. I personally use a 100 mbps fibre internet connection, but I also trade in South Africa, which does not have local brokers with their own servers.
If you are trading in the EU on EU servers, latency shouldn’t be too much of an issue.
Listen……I am a global cloud architect and I know a thing or two about being mobile…less so about trading but I get by. You do not need an i7 powerhouse. For my money - believe it or not - Microsoft makes the best piece of mobile kit out there with the Surface Pro. Not the Surface book. The Surface Pro. If you’re just using the internet, writing an occasional Word doc, and trading, it is perfect; even the lower end spec will be fine. It also has the best stylus system on the market for marking up charts should you wish to do that. Battery lasts a full day. If you want to pimp it out add this: ASUS MB16AC (I can’t insert a link) The best PORTABLE external monitor on the market giving you two monitors while on the road. Happy travels.
I second Windows Surface Pro (Pro not book).I didn’t buy the top tier WSP, but maybe 2/3 or about 3/4 top haha. Spent 1400 USD. Blows every computer I’ve had out of the water and can be used as a tablet should you so choose.
I’m a PC guy through and though but do also use apple products and find the apple os laptops to be great at multitasking especially when you want to constantly flick back and forth between desktops by swiping the the touch pad to the left and right. Not sure how many desktops you can setup with this, but certainly enough to make multitasking very easy.
At 500 pounds however, might need to look to the secondary market where you might be able to pick up a refurbished one within your budget.
I live in Australia and have travelled relatively extensively through SE Asia. You’ll likely find wifi is free and readily available in most cities in South East Asia. Australia is definitely lacking, where free wifi is only now just becoming common. Where you do have to pay for it in Australia, it’s likely to be pricey and slow, especially when compared to Asia.
