The UBS Swiss consumption indicator improved for the first time since last December as the index rose to 0.985 from a revised reading of 0.887 in February as prices fell and policymakers stepped up measures to help the economy. Swiss consumer prices dropped the most in five decades in March, helping spending power, while the SNB cut its benchmark interest rate to near zero to revive growth. Despite the improvement, consumer spending may still far from favorable as companies cut jobs amid waning global demand.
