Swiss Manufacturing Advance Amid Manager's Expectations of Expansion

Swiss manufacturing advanced for a second consecutive month in September as the economy is stabilizing from its deepest recession in three decades. The SVME purchasing managers index rose to 54.3 in September from 50.2 in August, amid expectations for an advancement of 51, as manager’s expectations for expansion continue to surge due to global demand for Swiss products. The breakdown of the report showed increases in output, backlog of orders, quantity of purchase, purchase prices, suppliers delivery times, stocks of purchases and employment, all contributing to the increase in the PMI. At the same time, the Swiss National Bank may keep interest rates at 0.25% throughout the rest of the year as consumers scale back on spending because of employment uncertainty. Going forward, continuing efforts by SNB should help the economy expand as policy markers foreshadow growth in 2010.
