I’ve been playing around with my EA in MT4 and reviewing the tester results. It reports “drawdown” in $ & %. Could anyone enlighten me if this the same as Risk, like if it said 27%, would that be 27% of my startup margin or ? and if so, would it be in relation to each trade, or overall test results, of your account balance? I can’t quite seem to find a satisfactory/meaningful answer so far to know what’s good, acceptable, or bad.
Thanks
In most cases, drawdown means the decline from peak equity - either in a particular trade or in terms of your account as the result of succeeding trades.
Drawdown can be from intraday peak to valley OR trade close to trade close. Check to see what they are referring to.
In reference to the %. You need to check how much that % is in relation to. I use TradeStation and it lets me change my initial investment to whatever I want.
So 10% could be on a 10,000 account or 1,000,000… Check those settings.
Good luck!
Yeah… drawdown, if im correct, usually refers to your account balance. Tells how far your account would have gone down during a given period of time.
So if you have your initial investment at 10k… and it shows your strategy having a 30% drawdown… the $ amount should be $3k.
At least that’s how it works on my TradeStation. If you were to change your initial investment settings to 100k, for example, then the drawdown amount would remain at $3k, but the % should change to 3%.
