Hello guys! Lately I have been trying to understand why my predetermined risk is not the same as the risk I am actually taking although my entries and exits are good (when buy enter
at ask exit at bid , when sell enter at bid exit at ask) I calculate my position size with a position
size calculator and I multiply the value per pip with the tp in pips and sl in pips to find out how much am I risking. Although my calculations seems to be correct compared with the baby pips
calculator which shows on the top right amount at risk , pip value calculator which is right about the pip value and the platform mt5 who shows the amount at risk and amount to gain
which matches with my calculations the outcome is different every time and I can`t understand why…maybe someone will try to clear things for me and help me figure it out all of this…
My R/R ratio is 1:1.5 and my only strategic level to exit is on the TP. In order to respect the
R/R ratio I divide the TP in pips to 1.5 R/R ratio.
Now I will give an example of the last test trade that I tooked to see if the outcome is the same as the way I calculated it ( S### is getting pretty annoying)
ACCOUNT BALANCE: 471.16 EUR
PAIR: GBP/USD
TYPE OF ORDER: SELL
SPREAD: 1 PIP
CURRENT EUR/USD RATE: 1.10722
ENTRY BID: 1.29554
EXIT ASK TP = INTENDED + SPREAD = 1.29474 + 0.00010 = 1.29484
EXIT ASK TP IN PIPS = 1.29554 - 1.29484 = 0.0007 (7 PIPS)
EXIT ASK SL IN PIPS = 7 / 1.5 = 4.6 PIPS ROUNDED
EXIT ASK SL LEVEL = 1.29554 + 0.00046 = 1.29600
LOT SIZE: 0.11 LOTS
PIP VALUE: 0.993479 EUR
AMOUNT OF MONEY AT RISK: 0.993479 x 4.6 = 4.5700034 EUR AT RISK
AMOUNT OF MONEY TO WIN: 0.993479 x 7 = 6.954353 EUR TO WIN
INTENDED EXIT BID TP LEVEL: 1.29474
INTENDED EXIT BID SL LEVEL: EXIT ASK SL LEVEL - SPREAD = 1.29600 - 0.00010 = 1.29590
THE OUTCOME: 4.67 EUR LOST , BALANCE 466.49 EUR
If someone could show me another way to calculate it properly or could tell what am I doing wrong here I would appreciate it! And about the small SL in pips I will not doing that in real
trading this applies only for testing. Thanks in advance!
