The news

when the news gets released does it always have an effect on the currency?,say it was positive news for the gbp would it be positive for the gbp in all the currency pairs its in? thanks

I’ve been thinking quite a bit about this recently, so I started doing a Diary, only for EU and US announcements, my conclusion - excpet for the NFP, generally the effect of news announcements on the market are mostly negligible, the spreads open a bit, you may want to take that into consideration with your stops, but otherwise, they can generally be ignored.

However, after saying all that, the market does have a habit of moving shortly after major news announcements, but this really shouldn’t affect your analysis too much.

thanks thats helpful, what major news annoucements effect the markets the most? do you also have any type of blog or website as you are very helpful

If your looking for movement based on news you have to stick to the big events. NFP, Fed announcements, Central Bank announcements, Financial union announcements like ECB. Basically central banks, sovereigns or groups of sovereigns, and NFP.

One news item i have not heard mentioned is Uncle Ben speaking.Just recently he uttered possible aid to the economy .I have been online trading twice now when he speaks and the moves have been quite impressive. Also when LTRO documentation was released it was delayed 15 min and if just got your platform on and werent listening for news and thought it must have been a non event you would have been mistaken. It was very active about 60 pips in one direction so beware of news events at all times.

actually its not the news that affect the currencies but the event that the news tell us !

I guess I have a better understanding on what to look for and what to avoid  thanks for sharing

For me news trading is all about expectations. Not all “good” news events result in a bullish market move, or vice versa. But the thing i mostly look for is what the market expected, and what the market got.
