Beyond the ups and downs of making money, something about forex trading can really stress people out. It might be sweating over every tiny price move. Or maybe you worry about every big news event that could shake up the market. These are all pretty common stressors when it comes to trading but…
What’s the most stressful part of forex trading most people don’t know or realize?
Balancing family life with trading could be one. Or that you need to keep up with a lot of what’s going on in the world if you use fundamental analysis. Comment below with yours!
I don’t have any stresses or fears right now, but I remember when I had significant fear and stress about my trading. Coming from a 9-5 job, I was freaking out about leaving it completely, worried that I might not have enough income the following month. However, with good risk management, a solid plan, and clear goals for my trading, everything turned out well.
The times when I’m most anxious is when I have a large position which is in profit. I feel a constant pressure to close it and get the profits into the account before price reverses while I’m asleep.
Ironically I don’t stress over losing positions but I find I don’t give their charts enough attention - many times the TA has been signalling me to get out before the stop-loss was reached. Maybe I’m avoiding the stress of dealing with the issue - maybe I should stress more about them.
For me, it’s definitely controlling my overthinking. If I’ve missed an entry or miscalculated my TP and SL, is there going to be any news!? Sometimes, I have panic attacks in the middle of the night, and I wake up to check if there’s been any news.
The most stressful part of my trading is when I entered the market and there is still no way to place my order at breakeven according to the rules of my trading strategy.
Hmmm. Of course, apart from the emotions that I can’t seem to let go of, there’s also getting stopped out right before price moves in the direction you wanted it to or getting so little of what could’ve been your profits because you set your TP so low. Looking back at those trades, and thinking of the possibilities if I just did stuff right or slightly different.
