I live in India (GMT +5:30). I am currently now at an Elementary level, but I more confused about the timings. When are the opening timings and closing timings, I know the market is open 24 hours? Can anyone explain the timings according to my country India?
Hello Vinayrk,
Here is chart which I made to show the opening and closing times of the 7 largest forex markets. Note that these opening and closing times are all based on an 8am to 5pm “business day” in each market, and this is, at best, a generalization.
The colored bands in this chart show the hours when most of the daily trading takes place in each market. However, as you probably know by now, there is trading in the overnight hours in every market. But, the great majority of daily trading in each market occurs during “normal business hours”, so this chart was constructed to reflect that.
Here are the session times in table format, showing GMT times, with corresponding times in your time zone, India Standard Time (IST = GMT+5½ hours).
• Wellington (New Zealand) – 2000-0500 GMT – 1:30am-10:30am IST
• Sydney (Australia) – 2200-0700 GMT – 3:30am-12:30pm IST
• Tokyo (Japan) – 2300-0800 GMT – 4:30am-1:30pm IST
• Mainland Asia – 0000-0900 GMT – 5:30am-2:30pm IST
• Central Europe – 0600-1500 GMT – 11:30am-8:30pm IST
• London (U.K.) – 0700-1600 GMT – 12:30pm-9:30pm IST
• New York (U.S.A.) – 1200-2100 GMT – 5:30pm-2:30am IST
The period of greatest daily trading volume is the period when Europe, London and
New York overlap. That is 1200-1500 GMT, which is 5:30pm-8:30pm IST.
Daily price moves are often greatest during this period of maximum trading volume.
