Price is the most important information and is, if you like, the raw material on which to use a tool. Candlesticks or bars are a good way to express how price behaved during a given period of 1 bar, and putting a series of bars together can tell you almost everything you need to know about what you should do.
The simplest tool to add to this is a moving average. Compared to its simplicity, it adds so much interpretation of price behaviour that it is great value - it shows a lot without you having to think a great deal about it.
If you need to, add a second MA or even a third MA before considering any off-chart indicators.
The strategy will tell you what tools you need to trade it effectively - do not get hold of a bunch of indicators and then try to develop a strategy that uses them - wrong way round. Either way, every indicator or marking you add to a chart must earn its place - your strategy would fail without it, and it must tell you something you can’t already see.
