Trading Hours

Due to my job I usually trade 3a EST - 5 or 6 EST. I know, not the ideal time but my question is, is there REALLY a difference in the way that the markets work depending on the time of day? I understand why late Friday EST would be BAD due to low volume, but as Forex is traded worldwide Sunday night - Thursday, does the timing make a HUGE difference? When are the golden hours?

I believe the “hot” times are when the London and the NY markets overlap, i think is 8:00AM EST or 1:00PM GMT

Usually too early / late for me :frowning:

Ta!

Sounds like your getting in on the London time, 3am est is the open for it and the Tokyo closes at 4 am est. There are some moves around then.I am stuck with the Tokyo open and a few hours in and I find trades. The London is a good time to trade.

As noted, the NY/London overlap is the highest volume period. The time you operate it wouldn’t seem too bad to work with, though. Generally the roughtest time of day is the US afternoon before Asia kicks in.

The time you are available probably isn’t the best for scalping or day trading, but I think it’s a great time to study what’s going on (economics, world events, etc.) and longer term charts like daily and 4hr. Putting on longer term positions can be just as profitable, and probably easier to manage your risk. Good luck!
