Trading Platforms for Mac

Hello all,

I was wondering if you knew of any good trading platforms I can use on a Mac. I would love to use MT4 as there are a lot of good reviews about it, however it doesn’t work on a Mac, I know I can install windows on my mac or use a converter to make it work, which is what I will be doing, if there are no decent alternatives.

Also if there are any really good web based platforms any recommendations would be appreciated.

Any advice on which is better a downloaded or web based platform?

And also any recommendations for a reliable trust worthy broker, preferably ECN?

Thanks in advance.

I use MT4 trading-platform in my laptop. But never use any terminal in MAC. I think instaforex have mobile trading platform. You can check there.

MT4 is a one-click installation on any Mac with Crossover installed:

MetaTrader 4 - CodeWeavers

I ran it that way for a while, but found it was actually LESS resource intensive to simply run MT4 from within a Windows installation on Parallels:

Parallels Desktop 8 for Mac - Parallels

If you don’t want to spend any money, you can either install Virtualbox and install Ubuntu Linux, then use Wine to install MT4 (I once uploaded a ready-made Ubuntu virtual machine for a few members here, and it worked well):

https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Downloads

OR get Wine running on the Mac directly, and install MT4 from there. You’ll have to google that one, as I have no experience with it.

Good luck!

Definately the MetaTrader4 (MT4). If you can get it working it is one of the best platforms for trading

Sorry for the late reply guys!

I’ve had a look into it I don’t really want to have to pay for expensive software if I don’t have to - so i tried to set it up using Wine and Wine Bottler, but it kept giving me an error message and wouldn’t create it for me.

I also tried attempting the Virtual Box method listed above yet the link listed above wouldn’t work for me.

Can anyone help me please? I just need a straight forward method for installing Meta Trader on a Mac

Thanks in advance.

I could spend some time and make a Linux virtual machine with MT4 preinstalled you could use on your Mac, but I’m not sure I should. You have some easy solutions, but don’t want to spend the money. I linked you to the free VirtualBox where you could do it yourself, but don’t seem to want to spend the time to figure it out (even if the link I provided didn’t work, a quick Google search for “Virtualbox” would have given you one that did).

How about this, on this page:

Ubuntu VirtualBoxes – Free VirtualBox® Images

There is a link for a pre-made Ubuntu Virtualbox image:

Download VirtualBoxes - Free VirtualBox® Images from SourceForge.net

Once you’ve installed Virtualbox, you can use this Ubuntu image to boot into Linux (the username and password are on the page). From there you can install Wine from the Software Center, if it isn’t installed already, and proceed to download and install MT4 as you would on a Windows machine.

Good luck!

I run MT4 in WINE.

I’ve finally got MT4 through Wine, have you found that it can be annoying to close indicators? that you cannot find them to right click and close them.
