Hello everyone,
I am new on babypips… seems to be a busy and helpful website so here is my first question about trading sessions. There are two different time zones Summer and Winter. When Sydney is going from summer to winter then the clock is turned back one hour at the same time when New york is going from summer to winter then clock goes one hour forward. Maybe someone can explain And I understand that forex is 24h market from monday to friday. When i look the market hours… New York closes 9:00 PM and Sydney opens 10:00 PM. Why is there one free hour? Is the market moving then?
Hi, one small update. When Tokyo is going from summer to winter then time does not change. Both times in summer and winter the opening is 11:00 PM and closing 8:00 PM, time zone GMT
Clint has a very detailed post covering your question. Unfortunately, I can’t remember where its posted? Try doing a search? Or perhaps someone reading this thread knows where to find it? Thankfully, I trade 4h and up, so the odd hour here or there for a session open will not impact on my trading.
• To see how time zones and trading sessions changed during the spring 2013 transistion period, read this thread, starting with post #1 — 301 Moved Permanently
• From early April 2013 until late September 2013, no significant time zone changes will occur, and no changes in forex trading sessions will occur.
• Beginning in late September 2013, we will go through another transistion period, when countries go onto or off of Daylight Saving Time on various dates. I will start a new thread on September 27 to track the time zone changes and trading session changes which will occur between September 29 and November 4.
• Then, from November 4, 2013, through early March 2014, no further changes will take place.
The market is moving yes. The opening and closing hours of trading centers is simply there as you need to have a definition of when to count and open and close which is more relevant for book keeping. The forex market does not open and close like equity markets and the trade continues, but traders eventually go home and the close simply indicates that volume could be much weaker.
