Using historical data to test strategies

OK, so apparently Forex.com’s support suck, explained for 10 minutes that I wanted to test my swing strategies quickly, and all i got at the end was sorry, i cant help.

In the school, it says:
The fastest way to test your system is to find a charting software package where you can go back in time and move the chart forward one candle at a time. When you move your chart forward one candle at a time, you can follow your trading system rules and take your trades accordingly.

Now, how do I go about doing this? I cant find free options anywhere, and MT4’s strategy tester only seems to let you test EA’s on present time charts.

Anyone?

You got about three options:

  1. You can keep trying to load MT4’s historical data- quite a hustle but you can hack it after a couple of days.

  2. There is a free MT4 add-on that you can use to test manual strategies.- Search for that on the MQL forums

  3. Forex Tester 2. Its gonna cost you about 150 bucks, and let you test both EA’s and Manual Strategies.

Your pick brucey.

Could you point us to the free one please?

I find that FXpro offers the best historical chart data.

You can also try Kineticks free plan and see if it allows you to do what you need (I have not tried myself, but they do offer free end-of-day data and if I recall correctly have history going back x-amount of years).

Sorry but not really, what I’m after and I think the OP too is how to enter trades manually while running the ST.
